Hi! I'm so happy I found this board! I'm really going to need it! So, let me start off by telling you a little about me.

My name is Marie, I'm 27, 5'6", 241. I started dieting a few weeks ago at 250lbs and my goal is 145. I was thin until I hit 18, then went from about 127 to 215 in about a year. No thyroid problem, just depressing relationship helped me w/ bad habits...fast food, no exercise, etc. I have battled my weight since then, gone on many diets, never lasting more than about 3 months before I lose motivation for one reason or another. My highest weight was 265 about a year and a half ago...I lost 40 lbs, then gained 20-25 back. I stayed at about 245-250 for the past 6 months and am now ready for a major change.

I just got married in April and we'd like to start trying for a baby next year. But since I have developed a bulging disk, arthritis in my lower back and my breasts are already at a 42F, I am in no shape to be pregnant!! My motivation is to have a baby. It's the only thing I think will keep me focused for the year it will take. I am very scared I will fail again since that is such a long time. My husband is very helpful though. He is already pretty healthy, although he'd like to lose 20lbs or so, and is a chef. He makes dinner most nights and portions out for me which is very helpful.

So, I'll share my plan of action with you. First, I set up 4 mini-goals spaced about 12 weeks apart and using the 2lbs a week calculations. I also have been using Fitday.com (which I LOVE!! Totally free for those who don't know about it) to track EVERYTHING I eat and exercise I do. I stay 1100-1200 calories a day and usually have a "free" day on the weekend where I get up to about 1800. I try to eat the correct amounts from all the food groups and I take daily vitimins to make up what I'm missing. Due to my back, it's quite painful to "land" exercise right now so I swim 3 times a week. I do about 20 laps and then 10 min of movement exercise. I also bought a scale that tells you your weight, fat% and water weight. (I am at 50% body fat :o( ) I am a little scale obsessed though and tend to weigh myself at least every other day. My whole mood depends on if the weight has shifted. I know this is unhealthy, but every time I see the lbs drop by even .5, it gives me a boost of strength. Unfortunately, if not, the opposite happens.

Well, I apologize this is so long!!! I think I'm just so excited to find others who will be able to relate to me and that I can talk to openly about this journey! I am open to any thoughts on my plan of action too. So, nice to meet you!

Welcome to the group!!! I see many similarities in our stories. My main motivation is also that I want to have a baby.

I also gained a lot of weight in a small amount of time (70 pounds in 8 months). I assume that since I now have a thyroid disorder (diagnosed in 2001) that it may have started around that weight gain timeframe.

This group is filled with very supportive people who know what we are going through!!!
