Welcome! You have my support all the way. You are at a good starting point now by asking yourself what you need to do. I really do not know what you need to do at this point on your journey, but I can suggest that you write everything down from what you are eating, to what time you are eating, to what you feel before and after you eat. Are you an emotional eater or maybe you need to have a medical checkup with your doctor. After you have, in black and white, what your eating and exercise habits are you can build on those and start making some choices from that. Just breath and relax. This message board is great for sounding out but you may need some extra one-on-one support from a friend or even a professional.
Keep on.

Hi, First I want to say welcome, and second I would like to say I am here for you, any time you need me. I know your pain all to well, I was 263 at my heaviest all through highschool, when I graduated I was 213 then i gained it all back, to date I have lost 13 lbs after 2 monts of dieting. What I do is I find something that I like, I like haveing my nails done because I bite them and they look horible if i do not. so I set myself weekly gaols like walk 20 mins a day, dont over eat or something like that, and that takes care of getting my nails done and the upkeep for the weeks after that as long as I stick with my goals, if I fail I dont get whatI want. Another thing I do is I hold myself responsibel for everything i put in my mouth, if I want to eat a whole bag of corn nuts I know that I have to go and work that whole bag of corn nuts of at the gym etc, I hope to hear more form you, and if you start a journal you will probally do better than someone who doesnt do a journal, and you can keep one online or what ever.

Good luck

Welcome! I know what you're feeling, although I didn't gain my weight until I was in my mid 20's. But at my highest, I was 280. It's scary but you're already on your way by just admitting you need help and are ready to try.

First and foremost, definitely write everything down you put in your mouth, no matter how much or little. I found what helped me is to make one change at a time (I timed mine for one week). One week, I gave up soda completely and increased my water drinking. After that week was over, I added more fruit (one piece at each meal). My third week, I added a salad to my lunch and dinner. The fourth week, I stopped eating fast food completely. The fifth week, I started exercising at least 20 minutes a day (even if it was only walking around the block). I found that if I made small goals one at a time, I was much better at reaching those goals and it gave me the chance to slowly make changes in my lifestyle, not try to change everything all at one time.

I hope you find success and remember, you didn't gain all this weight in a month, it'll will take time to lose it. And if you lose it one to two pounds a week (you'll probably lose more the first week or two....mostly water weight), you're more apt to keep it off longer. I wish you the best of luck in your journey and don't forget to reach out for help when you need it.

Your age is actually a big advantage to you... you're young enough to develop lasting healthy habits, and your body is so much more resilient than it will be later in life.

As for getting started, maybe you can approach this as a school or work "project", and gather your data first.

Welcome!

I know exactly what you are going through. I've been heavy my whole life, and by 20 weighed in at 280, then by 23 I weighed 318. It's scary and frustrating...especially at a young age. Congrats no deciding to start your weight loss now.

Here's to the beginning of your weight loss journey,
Dianne
