Yippee!
I'm glad that I've sparked your interest. Bellydancing just really doesn't seem like it would be a very good workout, but I think you'd be surprised! It really works your core muscles, but it's also an excellent workout for your arms and legs. It's tough in the beginning, and a lot of times I would just stop and stare at these girls and think..."How do they DO that?!" It definately does not come over night, but that's half the fun of it. I see myself improve every time I do my workouts. I've also noticed that I walk taller and my posture is better. I got the Discover Art of Bellydance 3pack with Venna & Neena. The 3 pack comes with basics, moderate, and expert and each video teaches you a complete dance step by step. It's incredibally fun. They dubbing was fine on mine, but I've read some complaints about it being off on some. Also, they don't tell you how to hold yourself correctly during the instructional portion of the video, but there is a special section of the DVD dedicated specifically to that. It's VERY important that you watch that part first, or get another DVD that goes over body positioning specifically, because when your arms are in the air and you're trying to wiggle your hips around and throw out your chest, you can really do a number on your back.
I think it's fun, and I've seen a lot of progress in myself. When I finished the first DVD...it took me about 6 weeks or so...I did the dance for my husband...and let's just say...that wasn't the only work out I got that night! (*blush* I can't believe I said that...tee hee). This and my Salsa workout DVD never feel like a workout. I know that some cities offer Bellydancing at gyms as an aerobic class, so if you don't like to workout to DVD's, you can always check out your local gyms.
Let me know if you guys try it. It's challeging and can get frustrating (especially if you're as klutzy as me) but it's worth it and I think it's not only entertaining, but a real confidence builder.

Aiming at my
Hooray girls!
I hope you enjoy bellydancing as much as I do. It's so exoctic and alluring...what's not to like? Don't give up...it's tough, but I think you'll like the results.
