can't lose the "baby fat"

I had my son 4 months ago and I know that they say that it takes 9 months to put it on and 9 months to take it off. I am losing all of my motivation and feel like I am putting it on not taking it off. I walk alot, sometimes. But I am beginning to feel depressed. I need a little pick me up.

{{{hugs}}} I imagine that dealing with a new little person in your life while trying to change the way you eat can be discouraging. You're here, and that's a good step. I've found a lot of encouragement and support on this board. And it's okay to take some "time off" from trying to lose weight - you have a lot to adjust to in your life, if you just had a baby.

Weight loss - epecially for most of us on this board - is a long-term process and goal. Would it help to break it down into smaller goals? I find it discouraging to think about all the weight I have to lose still, but I'm encouraged when I set myself mini goals and reach them. My first ten pounds, going down one size, making it through one day without eating those cookies (LOL). Little reasons to celebrate, and to feel good about myself. Making it through one day at a time, instead of seeing the long term goal and feeling like it's too far away to bother.

Hang in there! You're going to be a great mom, and you're going to find your motivation to take off and keep off that weight, and you *will* make it. And we'll be here to cheer you on your way. =)

Congratulations on your baby! Is this your first? You must be going through a big adjustment priod right now. Don't be too hard on yourself.. having a baby is a lot of work (well at least for me, mine was never a big sleeper and I was constantly drained). Do you have a specific plan of action? Did you ever start journaling? It helps me a lot to write down what I eat and when I exercise... it keeps me more focused. And it also helps when I come here and post. There is a great bunch of supporting ladies here

Welcome to the board! My DD is just 3 months old, and I've been trying to lose weight ever since. Unfortunately for me, I have more than just "baby" weight to lose. I've been sticking with it though, and I find my daughter to be such a motivator for me. Plus, it's really hard to sit and eat when you're trying to entertain a fussy baby :)! I do know that I've not been losing weight like I used to before having the baby, but take heart that it will eventually come off if you stick with it! Good luck and welcome.

Thank you very much for your encouragement! I don't get much from my boyfriend, who to me should be my number one supporter. He simply tells me to get off of my butt and do something about it, but it seems like it gets harder and harder every day to get motivated. So if you have any tips for me on what I can do I would really appreciate it!

I didn't really think that I would get this kind of reaction, thank you for your reply!

Thank you so much for your reply! How do you do it with all of those beautiful kids? I am very happy for you to have such a wonderful family.
If you can tell me some of the things that you do to get the weight off I would really appreciate it. I seem to have forgotten what i should do, duh me. My first thought is to just not eat, but I totally know better. I can't even imagine not being able to breast feed my little boy because I am too selfish to eat for him. You know what I mean?

So thank you once again.

Yes, he is my first. He is so perfect for me. He is not a big napper, but he does really well at night for the most part. I really love being a mom. I wouldn't trade anything for what I have right now. I just really need to feel better about myself. I know that the weight is a big part of it for me. I have even seemed to have lost my personality somewhere along the lines. So I guess that is why I turned to all of the women on ivillage for some support. I am really lacking it at home.

I will definately try the journal thing. I never thought of that . Any other advice let me know. NO I have no plan. I am completely lost right now. So any thing you can share let me know please!!!!!

your little boy is adorable! Is he your only one?

Thank you again

Thank you for your reply. I can totally relate to the fussy baby thing. Mine is just like I was so I am told. But hey, I can't help but look at him and want to cry at least once a day just thinking about the fact that I created that and that I have his unconditional love forever!
It is so hard to even do anything. At first I was trying to do sit ups and push ups, crunches, leg lifts, and all that. But for some reason I completely lost it. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I started working and I feel completely drained all of the time.
I would like to lose about 50 pounds. I weighed 165 before I got pregnant, and by the time I had him I weighed 257. I am down to 200 but I don't know what to do about the last 50. So maybe we can compare ideas and see if we can't help eachother!!!

Talk to you soon.

Yes he's my only so far.. he's 2.5 yrs old

I would definitely start with the journaling. Just write down everything that you eat and after a few days look at your journal and see where you can make changes. You can also write down why you're eating.. sometimes we just eat because food is there. I noticed that when I journal I stop a lot of the mindless munching. Also aim at drinking a lot of water. It fills you up nicely. I heard from someone here that she has a glass of water before eating anything even snacks and this way she eats less or avoid the snack all together. You can also try setting one goal to focus on, for example cut off soda or decrease the fast food by one, or stop ordering fries, or have 1 more exercise session, and so on...

Good luck Grace.. and great job with losing the weight so far
