annual physcial time...

So i had my annual physical this morning (8am)... Had a "skin tab" removed from underneath my left boob, OUCH... all they do is snip it off with a scissors and then put some iodine on it. Then of course had the pap etc.

I still weighed in at 311.8 lbs. :(

So I asked DR. Allison about getting somehting to help me with the weight loss and after talking to her for about 20 minutes about what i'm currently doing, she wrote me a perscription for Phentermine. So i took my 1st pill around 9:15 this morning. other than having a dry mouth, i don't have any other side effects.

I'm hoping this will help with my out of control eating/hunger. I'm not expecting any miracles, but I sure wouldn't turn down a small one. or in my case a big one. LOL.

Hi Sara - My name is Jena and I am new to the board. I just wanted to give you a little heads up on Phentermine. Be very careful - I believe this drug was part of the very popular diet pill Fen-Phen. It was pulled off the market because of the high rate of heart attacks. We all want a quick fix to obesity, but is putting your health at risk worth it? I was on Fen-Phen and it did help me lose weight, but I had many side effects and as soon as I went off of it, I gained back all the weight I lost and then some. Just a little warning. Please be careful.

Take Care, Jena

I know nothing about diet pills or side effects.. completely ignorant here.. don't like to take any pills if I can avoid it... but:

You have a physical annually??? And they don't drag you in half-sedated for that?? What a woman! I never go to doctors unless I'm in a life threatening situation or when I had to go (rather dragged in) when I was pregnant

First of all, congrats on getting your physical and getting even the wicked skin-tag snipping done. Ick. I did want to chime in on the meds your doc prescribed though and share a perspective that my doc and I discussed at my last check up in the fall.

He's the first physician I've ever seen who is sympathetic to my situation. He's often involved in obesity research studies and told me that what they are finally "getting" in the medical community is that not all obese people are the same. Personally, even when I'm not watching, I am not a compulsive eater, rarely exceed 2000 cals/day, am relatively active, and have a thyroid that checks out in the normal range. The solution for me needs to be different from someone who cannot control their eating. He said that only recently have the experts started to quietly acknowledge that something is out of whack for a person like me besides thyroid problems and that there might be something more than psychological factors driving compulsive eaters. My point is that we have to work at getting ourselves out of the one-size-fits-all mindset that we've been fed for so many years.

Good luck,
Annie

Yeah, unfotunately i go every year. i figure if my insurance is gonna cover it 100% i might as well do it. I even make DH go get a physical every year, and i have to drag him there "kicking & screaming" too. LOL.

I did do alot of research on Phentermine (as well as other perscription "diet" pills) before i even asked my dr about it.
( My mother was on Fen-Phen when that was popular, so i am well aware of the risk of any kind of diet drug).. < it was the combination of the 2 drugs that is dangerous. (in 1997 the FDA pulled Fenfluramine & Dexfenfluramine off the market, but not Phentermine>

I know that this is not a "quick fix" and I am aware of all of the risks involved.

Hi Sara! Thanks for clearing that up for me. I assumed that it was part of Fen-Phen because of the first couple of letters in the name of the drug. Anyway, we're just trying to keep you safe. If you choose to take it then I hope you have much success on it without any side effects. Take Care, Jena 395-310-175
