Did anyone see Dr Phil today?

Hi Everybody! Did anyone watch Dr Phil today? Well, he had a woman on his show who lost 160 lbs over a period of 3 years. Well, her skin was loose all over and she said it reminded her of pizza dough. It was rather disturbing. Is that what is going to happen to me when I get down to my goal weight? I've lost 85 lbs with about 135 lbs more to go. It kind of scared me. I think I'd rather stay fat. I'm 30 yrs old and exercising with cardio/strength training 5 days a week...maybe that will make the difference. What do you all think? Are you concerned about that?

Take Care, Jena

Hi Jena---

No, I didn't see the show, but it strikes a chord.

Im worried about it too. I have about 135 lbs to lose. But there are a lot of ppl who have lost weight like that and im not positive, but I dont think that they had any problems. I think that Ill just do a lot of muscle toning workouts, I should be doing them now, but 1 step at a time.

P.S.-- It's TELEVISION, and pizza-dough girls make for better ratings...

How old was she? When you're younger age is on your side. I remember a long time ago a member of this board said that she lost a lot of weight when she was in her early 30's and never had any sagging skin problems.

Hi Everybody - Thanks for your posts. Well, to answer your questions...I have had the issue of BIG arms with wings if you know what I mean. My tri-cep area is HORRIBLE!! And when I get to my goal weight, my Gram has offered to pay to get it done for me (thank God!). Other than that I don't have any trouble spots. With lots of strength training hopefully I won't have that problem. I think I'd rather stay fat that to have that problem. Thanks, Jena 395-310-175

Was the person a gastric by-pass patient? Usually those folks lose weight so fast that their skin can't keep up. (Like a helium balloon left outside on a cool night.) I think for most of us it will be at worst like it is for women following childbirth--that it might take time to regain tone, etc. In the grand scheme of things I'd rather deal with some sagginess and be a normal size. I'm with Misha on the TV-hype theory. Plus there's an entire industry thriving on Americans becoming routine about cosmetic surgery. People are getting rich beyond reason because they've convinced us that we should be matter of fact about getting nipped and tucked. Uh, sorry I just want to get and stay healthy. Cheers, Annie
