Hi everyone! This is my first time to this board. Here is my story:

Six months ago I was determined to loose all of my excess weight that I put on from a disease called Hypothyroidism (Low thyroid). I was 240 and got down to 218 when I found out I was pregnant. The first couple of months I lost weight during pregnancy. Then I gradually started gaining weight. I was really careful about not putting to much weight on.

At 19 weeks my water broke. The doctors told me there was a 1% chance that the membrane would reseal and the baby would be fine. Two days later I was in labor. At 19 weeks the babies lungs are not developed and she could not survive. Ammerah Jean Waheed was born on August 5, 2006.

After being home from the hospital for a week I decided to weigh myself. I weighed in at 222, not bad I thought. Well, a month later I am up to 228! I'm not allowed to workout until my six weeks are up and since I am on temp disability from work I have a hard time controlling my appetite.

Any suggestions on where to turn to?

(((Yusra)))), First of all welcome to the board. How devastated you must have been to lose your precious little one. (What a beautiful name you chose. I pray that you find peace and solace in knowing that she is in a wonderful place.)

It seems like you really have some limitations right now with regard to weight loss. Maybe what you can do is focus on some general "good idea" changes like drinking 8 - 10 glasses of water a day and making sure you eat at least 5 servings of fruit and veggies each day. Hope to see you around the board! Good luck, Annie 252/232/156

Hi Yusra and welcome to the board

I"m very sorry to hear about your little Princess. You must be a very brave woman that you're able to deal with all this.

Well, as your doctor said it is not wise to start exercising before your 6 weeks checkup.. but you can get on track when it comes to eating healthy.. drink plenty of water.. get in at least 3 servings of fruits and vegetables.. wean yourself off the junk food bit by bit..

Here's another thought for you.. did you even consider journaling? Try journaling for a few days (online, use fitday, or on pen and paper).. and track what you eat, then have a look at your journal and see where you can make better choices.

Good luck on your journey.. I am looking forward to knowing you better.

BTW.. I see that you live in LA, but where are you from originally?

I think you've received the best advice this board can provide... and moving forward in small steps now will help you when you're ready to begin being more active, etc.

Just let me add my condolences;

Thanks for the support! I did journal before I got pregnant and had great success tracking my calories.

I was born in Indiana but my family is from Germany.

Welcome to the board! Sorry it took me so long to reply, I missed a lot in the few days I didn't visit :).

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, I can't even imagine what it would be like.

If you are having a hard time controlling your eating, then a solution might be to schedule small meals and snacks throughout the day that are lower in calories. This would allow you to eat often, but still not go overboard calorie wise. As far as exercise goes, you might ask your doctor if you can go ahead and start with light to moderate exercise like walking. It's one of the best forms of exercise there is, but not too hard on a body that's recovering. I think it can actually help speed the healing process. It's one of the best forms of exercise there is, and just getting up and moving might help you get your appetite/need to eat under control. Definitelly check with your doctor first, but if he/she gives the okay, it's something that might help you out :).

Welcome to the board and good luck in both of your journeys!
Staci
