We're all trying hard to lose the weight.. but I've been asking myself lately why have I packed it on on the first place? I think it helps to know the reason(s) to help us now and to

I'm new to this board.. 37, married, no kids (yet) -- two dogs and a cat. :-)

I think part of the reason why I am at where I am now is because I was put on my first diet at the age of 8.

Laziness....
Inactivity...
Food tastes too darn good to stop eating 2nds & 3rds...

In high school & college i was very active in sports, marching band etc.. so i burned alot of calories and i ate alot of calories... but as my activity level decreased, my eating habits stayed the same..

10 yrs ago is went i started really packing on the pounds...I broke my femur playing softball, and was on crutches for about 9 months so i had no exercise what so ever. i put on about 70 lbs (got up to about 240 lbs) and then pretty much stayed at that weight
until i had my kids (16 months apart) and now I am where I am.

Hi, Kimberly--

Really interesting to hear about the sleep apnea, and how the CPAP has already affected your life positively.

My weight has fluctuated alot since I was about 17. My senior year in high school, I was extremely depressed and weighed about 185 - 190 which really wasn't that bad for my height but I felt fat and more or less stopped eating. By the time I turned 19 I was down to 160. I also met my boyfriend at this time and moved out of my parents house, which is where the trouble starts. It was my first time living on my own, I was working at a job that involved walking all day, and I can't cook, so I found that I could eat whatever I wanted for the first time in my life and not gain weight. About 3 months later I changed to a desk job (with a vending machine in close proximity to my desk) but not my eating habits. My parents also got divorced at this time and I was diagnosed as being bipolar and having anxiety attacks. I think that alot of my weight came from my eating habits and lack of exercise, but I also think that the anti-depressants I was taking at the time contributed to the weight gain.

I've heard (or read) that too... That losing weight can eliminate the sleep apnea.
