Low Calorie

I'm doing the low calorie thing, but how few is too few? I've been at about 700-1000 a day for almost 2 weeks. I don't actually own a scale so I only judge by how my clothes are fitting and some of my jeans are already kinda getting loose. Is it possible to lose too fast? Any thoughts?

It is possible to loose to fast and your body can actually start storing the food as fat because it thinks its not going to get it for awhile! You need atleast 1300-1500 calories a day depending on your size. How tall are you and what is your weight?

You definitely don't want to do super low calorie for a long period of time, because it will slow you down in the long run. A good rule I've heard is to multiply your goal weight by 10-12 and that's the MINIMUM you should eat, so around 1300-1550 would be a good # to eat. If you find that your weight loss slows after a while, you may try adding MORE calories, because too few calories is often the cause of a stall.

You had some great responses.

Hi!
That is pretty low-calorie, and unless you're getting appropriate (and frequent) medical monitoring, it's probably not a great long-term strategy.
I've used very low calorie diets before and still use them every now and then. I use them for a week or two when I first begin or when I'm stalling for a long time.. they sort of give my body a shock and I lose fast and it's really helpful when you feel you've lost a lot.. makes you stick more to it because you can see results fast. But I will not recommend getting that low for over 2 weeks unless you're under doctor supervision. You may want to go a bit higher for the next couple of weeks.. say go to the minimum recommended calories (1,200 calories).
What I found out and it really works is to focus on the quality of the calories. When you're eating 1,200 calories with a lot of junk in there you'll lose slower than when you eat 1,200 calories with lots of vegies, lean protein, etc. I am not sure why.. but it's just what's been happening with me.
I wish you all the luck on your journey.. I think measuring your success with clothes is a very good indication.. you may want to measure up with a measuring tape too (or a piece of thread if you don't like numbers). I like to measure my waist, hips, and arms (biggest problem parts for me LOL)
So what did you decide?
I actually do pretty good on very low calorie because I eat a lot of veggies and take my vitamins. I still am eating 3 meals a day but they are very low cal, between 200-300 calories and if I need a snack there are sugar free popcicles. I don't want to go to total starvation mode because I did that in high school and ended up under 100lbs, which for my height, not nearly enough, but it was easier than trying to eat healthy, so now I'm doing both, eating less and eating better. BTW, those Campbell's cup of soup things are really good, I recommend the vegetable beef, only 80 cals, but suprisingly filling.
I also have more energy, which it should be the opposite, but I've hit the waves 3 times this week. I'm sunburned, but I feel a lot better. Having problems with the cigs though. I keep cheating, but I am down from a pack to only 5 or 6 in a day. When I'm stressed I need nicotine, and working 70 hours a week, definately stresses me out.
I've also discovered the wonders of fresh fish that isn't battered and fried, I go to the docks, ask what they brought in, and if it's something that wasn't on any of the orders from the restraunts they hook it up for cold beer. There is nothing like fresh food, from the water to the plate in a couple of hours.
