Is it true? Same weight gain in preg?

Just heard this one and had to check it past you ladies first.. someone at the EC boards keeps mentioning that your body learned from the first pregnancy and no matter what you do you'll gain the same weight in the pregnancies to follow. Now I know that sounds really stupid because it depends on what you eat, right? But then again I never really understood

I have only had one baby, but I can reassure you and tell you that most of the people I know have gained varied amounts with each of their pregnancies. I think you are right in that it depends on how much you eat and how well you take care of yourself. For most of my pregnancy I gained very steadily at 1 pound per week, then packed on 30 lbs in the last 2 months due to water weight, but I had lost almost 40 lbs by 2 1/2 weeks post partum. Don't worry too much, I know you can do it and you know this time around that pregnancy isn't a license to just eat and eat and eat. Even if you do do that, you will probably still self regulate more :).

NO Mary, In my experience it is not true. I gained from around 110-115 with DD12 to 178 when I had her, lost down to 140 afterwards...too bad it didn't stay off! With DD6 I gained around 30-40 lbs and DS I lost til the last trimester than only gained a total of 14 lbs, all of which was baby and water. So my pattern seems to be less weight. Now I do have a friend who gained a tremendous amount with all 4 of her pgs but she was so tiny to begin with.
By the time DS come along I was concious of my eating I was losing when I got pg then when

I don't remember clearly how much I gained with my DC.....it was so long ago but I do remember gaining alot with both.
Well, I can only speak from my own experiences. With my first pregnancy I gained 70, yep 70 lbs. I was the Krispy Cream Queen of Ft. Stewart, GA, LOL! My dh was in the Army and gone ALL the time so I drowned my sorrows in donuts and whole milk. I never took that weight off and only added to it. Thankfully my son was born healthy and 6 lbs. 5 ozs. By the time I got pregnant with my dd, 10 years later, I was up to 265. I gained only 20 lbs. with my dd. My OB put me on a diabetic diet just to avoid gestational diabetes. My dd was healthy and weighed 7 lbs. 8 ozs. Unfortunately, again I did not take the weight off. I guess I'd grown attached to it.
I have never heard anything about a woman's body remembering anything, let alone how much weight she gained while pregnant, lol. I think that is probably an old wives tale.
Take care of yourself and your new little peanut ;o)
