Suddenly Scared!

AhhhH! Today I have a woman from work coming over to pick up a ton of clothes that I offered her. I've also offered some of my other clothes to a niece of a woman I work with. I've been trying to give some of these away for a month because some of my pants are so big they literally fall off without being unbuttoned. Why is it that I'm suddenly scared to let go of the clothes? I think part of it comes from my little vacation last weekend and realizing just how easily I could gain all the weight back. I know I can't let that happen, but the possibility is there in the back of my head. I also know that if I do keep the clothes then I will be more likely to let myself regain because I'll have clothes to grow back into. But I'm really scared to let my clothes go :(.

Dont feel crazy about it!! I understand perfectly!! I have not yet gotten ride of my bigger clothes but they are out of my closet and away from me!! I am alittle apprehensive about getting ride of mine too!!! But I know if I keep them I will get depressed about how big I once was!! Some people I know keep them around for motivation!! Not me!! I would rather look at pics of my progress!! Which I have been doing!! I am taking pics every 20 pounds or so!! It is a real motivator!! Especially when the are all together!! I cant wait to take my next 20 pounds loss pic!! Remember things happen and you may gain a few pounds here and there for what ever reason!! But just stay focused and remember there is a wonderful light at the end of the tunnel!! The clothes are just material things!! And remember you are just making room for your "Smaller" clothes!!! :-)

Staci, change..even for the better can be scary. This is a significant step, by letting go of those clothes you're making it clear that you're not going to go back to where you started this journey. Your subconscious now has to let go of the "old you".

This will be good for you in the long run. Its like a benchmark that means that you're in control now...not the food or whatever led you to being unhealthy in the first place. This is a "YEAH, Staci!" moment!

Hey this in response to the clothes give away.
Well from my experience I was not scared but I really regretted it BIG.
In 1994 I went from size 20 to a size 4 . I gave some really nice size 20 slacks away. Well by 2000 I was rapidly gaining weight and reAally needed but I could not gett them back for the lady I gave them to died. I really missed those pants not when I was skinny but 6 years later. Sigh.

I think that the worst thing that you can do is hold on to something because you might need it "later". Yes, 6 years later the pp needed pants. But at the same time, part of the weight loss journey is that you are trying hard to declutter your weight and get rid of the excess that you no longer want to pack around. The very same thing should be said of your closet. If you want a guarentee to go back to the size that you were, hang on for all the clothes.

That said, maybe hang on to one piece that is at the biggest size that you were, so that you can try them on and say "look, these really don't fit me any more"

I think that it is great that you have done so well! Keep it up. It is such a hard struggle.

They are GONE! I handed them over about 2 hours ago...I'm glad to not be in them anymore and really glad I got to help someone else out. She's very nice and I know she had gained some weight recently and doesn't have a lot of clothes that fit her. They also don't have the $$ for her to buy a new wardrobe. A lot of the clothes I gave her were new or nearly new and quality items that I found good deals on. SHe seemed to really like most of them, so hopefully they will fit her well :).

YAY!! You go girl! Getting rid of those clothes is the best reward you can give yourself. Because you are NOT going to gain the weight back.
