I never did sneaky eating much until right after we adopted our kids. The adjustment period was long and exhausting. I had gone from an insanely busy career to SAHM overnight and the kids literally had to learn everything about living in a house with a family. My only down time was when they napped (in neutral corners I might add) and I had about 45 minutes to myself to watch my soap and graze without someone grabbing at my food, or biting his sister, or choking on too much food, or some other calamity. I was usually starving by then so I'm not sure it was technically binging, but I surely was rewarding myself with food in an effort to relieve stress, and would definitely eat things that I had saved just for myself. Not pretty. Annie
Sad to say that I do tend to hide it from DF. I don't usually make the effort to binge in private, I just don't tend to do it when DF is around. Last weekend when we were in Louisianna I wanted a candy bar and I ate it after he had left for pictures for the wedding because I didn't want him to see me eating it after eating 2/3 of a 1 lb burger! Most of the time I don't hide what/when I'm eating, but sometimes I do.
In the past I did. During the time I tried to eat less by counting calories and my previous attempt at WW, I would sneak an oversized candy bar and a regular soda in whenever I went shopping alone. I also had a problem with eating an entire box of the WW 1 point fudge ice cream bars in a day (heck, usually in 8 hours time)...mostly in secret. I know my dh noticed, but he never said anything. My poor ds liked the ice cream too, but I'd eat them up before he could get even one. I had myself convinced the first time around that I had to give up chocolate and anything basically that didn't have nutritional value. That only made me want the junk more.
This time around I'm trying to change my attitude. Nothing is off limits as long as I stay within my points. Somehow, knowing I can have anything has taken the attraction away.
As a matter of fact, I just did something recently. I bought a box of South Beach Diet meal replacement bars. They were 6 in a box so they should have lasted 6 days, right?....Wrong!....They were gone in 3 days....So to hide the fact from my DH, I left the empty box sitting on the self for a little over a week. I knew he wouldn't ever touch the box so I was "safe".
Your post made me think of a completely off topic but funny thing that happened shortly after bringing our kids home from Russia. They were 3 y.o. and 15 months at the time and for the first couple of weeks followed me everywhere and were essentially on me, even in the bathroom. We were living in a ranch house so when it was my TOM I figured they'd be safe for a few minutes while I gave myself a little privacy. When I shut the door the little one started crying and her big brother plopped himself right next to her outside the door. I was doing my best to hurry and wrestling with a tampon wrapper when my dear son (in Russian) started crying and yelling "No Mama, no eating now. Share the candy, please. Don't eat it, please!" ROFL It was so hard to convince him that I didn't have candy or some kind of treat in there. Why else would I close the door? I've since never forgotten that it isn't just treats that come in noisy wrappers. LOL Annie
Hot dogs are a great sneak food :-) I just want to say at night when my dad is around if he sees me snacking he calls me a name or somethimng insulting so yes I do have to sneak. When he leaves I binge. I binge alot especially at breakfast. Then my mom pounces on me.
Of course I gave him a treat...it was the only way to keep him from conducting a full inspection of the bathroom! He did smell my breath and check my mouth. He's 7 now and there's still no sneaking anything past him. :-)
