Hey. I'm Dusti and when I went for my gyno checkup the other day (for the first time in 3 years, which is bad enough), I realized I have gained 50 lbs since my last child was born. I was overweight already and am now, I hope, scared straight (so to speak).
I am 274 right now. 12 years ago I was 160, and 14 years ago I was 130. I don't want to live in the past but I know I am the type who needs a real kick in the rear to stay on track. I told my six year old tonight that if he sees me making food choices that he doesn't think are healthy (he has a really healthy diet, by his own choice) that he needs to say, "mom, could you make a better choice?" LOL He wants to do all kinds of crazy adventure stuff and he needs a more healthy and fit mom to do it with him.
I have never really tried to lose weight before. I joined a program several times but have never been serious because I've never been scared. Right now I have chronic pain and arthritis (I am 30, and would prolly have the arthritis anyway but it wouldn't be as bad) and have trouble keeping up with all the outdoor activities we are involved in. I also am tired of buying new clothes because they're getting too small!
My first goal is to lose 30 lbs, to get to 244. I wish I had been serious about this before I had gained so much.
thanks for your support :)

Hi and Welcome,
I've had the same thought as you "wish I had been serious about losing weight before I gained so much". I amagine everyone has thought that very thing. All we can do now is get serious! Losing weight will sure help with the pain of arthritis and pain.
Hi Dusti! I'm a newbie here too but wanted to welcome you to what I think will be of tremendous support to you. For me, I don't think I've ever had the feeling of being scared regarding my weight, I think I always thought getting scared silly to lose weight would come in the form of some illness creeping up on me and then freaking out. lol I have had the very good fortune of being blessed by none of those things before deciding this needs to happen now. All along, my motivation and my "scared" should have been my children and what would have happened had I had to leave them early because I keeled over from a heart attack. They're 13,12 & 10 now and oh how I wish I had done this sooner! I've struggled with weight my entire life so this should've been a process for me years & years ago! However, I believe that we can only succeed at this until we are truly truly ready to make it happen.
But anyways, I think it's wonderful that you are willing to get your son in on the action and allow him to feel like he is helping mom make a difference. What a really great way to keep that bond between you!
Best of luck to you on your journey, I know you can do this! You're worth every step, every ounce of sweat, and every bite of great healthy food! I look forward to sharing this experience with you and cheering you on to success.

Isn't it funny how something just has to click for you to really want to lose? I had my moment just after having my DD and it's stuck with me so far, so I know it's doable. Definitely feel free to come to us if you need motivation or inspiration or just a shoulder to cry on, we've all been there before :). Welcome to the board!

Welcome to the board, Dusti. I love your screen name. Sometimes it does take a scare to get going. Once you start feeling better because of the changes in your diet and exercise, you'll want to keep going and going.
I've got a four year old daughter who runs me ragged right now, lol. If I could just have 1/1000th of her energy, I'd be the Energizer bunny! I'd like to get the weight off so I could spend more time running and playing with her. I played basketball in H.S. and would love to be in good enough shape to teach her how to play when she's a little older.

Welcome to the board Dusti! Kids can become a real motivation when it comes to weight loss.. I haven't lost that much weight but it made a huge difference with my energy so far. I can only imagine how I would feel when I'm at goal weight. My son is naturally chosing healthy food too.. he's 2.5 now.
Best of luck on your journey
