Always blow it on the weekends...

How do you guys get though the weekends without blowing off your diet? How do you stay focused on your long term goals, rather than focusing on whatever tasty food you can get your hands on? I find that I do really really well during the weekdays, but then on the weekends I completely blow it - somtimes Friday through Sunday (all 3 days) I pig out, other times it's just Saturday and/or Sunday. It's like I suddenly *forget* that I am dieting and all restraint with food goes down the toilet. I don't know what's wrong with me! It is so completely frustrating! As a result, I haven't lost anything, even though I feel like I have been working hard for well over a month - which bascially I have been, but only on the weekdays....so it ends up being all for nothing because of the darn weekends!!! Grrrr!!!!
Any comments / suggestions would be a big help. Thanks.

Weekends have always been a challenge for me. I've just come to accept that weekends are going to always offer more temptations and have tried to adjust my lifestyle so that it's not a big deal. Here are somethings that have helped this time around that I hadn't tried in past efforts:
--I "sandbag" at breakfast and/or lunch so that I can eat more at dinner and not go over.
--I also REALLY watch it on Wednesday and Thursday. I try for an average of between 1300 and 1500 calories a day, and on those days I shoot for around 1200 or 1250. That way if I have a 1600 or 1700 day I'm not freaking out.
--I track on FitDay.com every bite of food, especially on my bad days. Want to talk about motivation to avoid junk?
--I try not to combine meals and alcohol. One glass of wine and I'm feeling like I can have a little more of this and a little more of that.
--I shoot for increased exercise time with one 90 minute session if possible.
Good luck. I don't think weekends have to be our ruin, I just think we need to come at them differently. Annie
Well, because our families love to eat and eat junk, I find that I'm often put in situations where I don't have great choices or I'm highly tempted.
I had to start planning my weekend meals. I had to give up fast food on the weekends and start cooking. I use my crockpot a lot. I also make casseroles that my family can have for leftovers the next day too. I also had to start keeping a lot of healthy snacks in the house. I always have fruit ready to eat (ziplock bags of frozen grapes, cut up cantelope, bananas, etc.) and cut up carrot and celery sticks. I like the Smart Pop popcorn and the mini rice cakes. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that sometimes the best way to avoid going overboard is planning. Would I rather be having half a pizza and a gallon of ice cream every weekend night...HECK YEAH! But I just make sure I have healthy alternatives and plan, plan, plan. Boring but it works, lol.

I struggle with this one, too.
One little "trick" that helps me is going to the farmer's market on Saturday morning if possible. The beautiful healthy foods really get me craving healthy rather than junk... and it's easy to avoid being distracted by all the not-so-good options that would be available in a supermarket. By the time I do my "regular" shopping, I usually have a handle on the few edibles I still need.
There's also a wonderful French bakery that sells at the farmer's market... most of the time I can just walk by and inhale deeply and be satisfied. How's that for a testament!
