Is ther any hope for me?

Hi, I'm 36 years old, I'm 5.6 in height and weigh 260 lbs. I would love to lose weight, but I have all these concerns, My friend lost over 100 pounds over a two year period and she ended up having to have a tummy tuck and a breast lift, even though she exersized regularly. I'm afraid that I will look even worse when and if I lose the weight. I know what I have to do, but I never seem to get enough gumption to do it. I tried the Atkins diet, which allowed me to lose about 20 lbs. but I felt incomplete with out any carbs. Now I can't seem to get going. Yes, I gained it back and then some. My husband has a terrible diet, he always has since he was a small child. So its hard to get support from him. I would like to get him to go on a diet with me, but there are alot of things he won't eat. He quit smoking in February and he has went from 130 to 175. He has had high colesterol for a long time. Do you have any words of incouragement? Thanks!

Thanks for your input it does help, I agree with you. I guess its hard for me to think of it that way, but in reality I'm a prime candidate for alot of health problems brought on by obesity, since it runs in my family. I just seen how bad the scars look on my friend and it scares me. Not to mention I can't afford surgury of that nature. I was always told that if you lose it naturally and slow you wouldn't have alot of loose skin. She did it all with her own natural diet and exercise and still had loose skin, but I never saw that, she just showed me her stomache and I was there to help her with her bandages after her breast lift. If you don't mind, how are you losing so fast? I guess I should look at alot of before and after photos or something. I have seen some, on Dr. 90210. But I'm sure those are extreme cases for tv affect. Thanks again and good luck!

I wouldn't worry about the whole surgery thing at this point.

Welcome! You can definitely do this! I know that loose skin can be a bit of an issue, but personally I would rather be healthy with some skin than obese and on the verge of death. It is a hard concept tho, we all want to look fantastic after we get to goal. Trust me, after you lose quite a bit (you didnt mention how much you'd like to lose), the loose skin won't feel quite as important. Also, you'd be surprised at how much elasticity there is in our skin! You will feel like a million bucks after all the hard work you will have put into this journey.

Best of luck to you. You can definitely do this and get to your goals if you want them bad enough. I look forward to seeing you around and cheering you on to success!

P.S. If Atkins made you feel like you could lose weight then maybe that's the plan for you? Remember, it's NOT no carbs, it's GOOD carbs- lots of veggies. If you haven't read the book I highly reccomend it, you'll find lots of useful information to guarantee success.

Thank you for your reply, it really helps, I can feel my motivation getting better. I guess the loose skin problem is my friend complained about the most, so it had me nervous. I get paid today, so I have a list of things I need to get started again. I'm hoping that having this discussion board will help me keep going. By the way. I am at 260 and my long term goal is to lose 100-120 pounds. My short term goal is to lose 25 pound by the first of the year. Thanks again.

Thanks, I have gotten alot of support from this board. I hope it keeps me going. I am an emotional eater so its hard to stay away from my bad foods.Especially when my husband insists on having them around. I have read some of the Atkins book. I also have the South Beach book, which I haven't read. Thanks again!

I am sorry it took me so long to respond, but I had to think on this. My best friend also lost over 100 lbs by exercise and over a peroid of time instead of really quickly too and she too had the loose skin problem and had both procedures done.

Here is my opinion on that situation: she was overweight her whole life and then lost the weight, okay she thinks that contributed to her loose skin (her being overweight for so long).

Hey, Your advise was great and Thanks so much. the belly button thing helps alot. Your right if I commit to myself and get to the point of needing it then ok I'd be more inclined to get it done. My friend had to save for the breast lift, but her husbands ins. paid for the tummy tuck due to swelling from a stubborn rash. I have three kids as well and I do know what ya mean. I have really bad stretch marks too. I got them from my first pregnancy and I gained only 40 lbs and weighed 175 at the time. Thanks a bunch. Mari
