epidemic?
Child obesity is on the rise in this country, and its dangerous health effects -- both during childhood and later in life -- are becoming increasingly well-known. As a parent, as a friend, or simply as a concerned American, what do you think can be done to help solve this crisis?

I agree about limiting games and TV.
I think the pps hit the nail on the head with all of her do's and don'ts food wise for her little one. And of course, keep active!
Another thing that we need to teach our children is proper portion size. I didn't know what a "serving" was of anything until I started researching this for my lifestyle choice. It is there and easy to find, but my parents certainly didn't teach me this!
So to sum it up: 1. Keep them active. Maybe enroll them in an excersise that they think is just for fun so that they can keep fit! 2. Give them good food choices. I think that it helps if you let them help choose healthy choices. 3. Portion size! Not knowing proper portion size does them no good.

Lead by example.. my son (and younger kids in general) are interested in whatever their parents are doing.. so if you're exercising, make sure your children see you and most probably they'll want to do the same. Also if your children see you eat AND enjoy healthy food, they'll more likely start eating the same things you do.
Don't use food as a reward.. I think this is the main reason I became a sugar addict!
From very early age don't force the child to finish his plate, or to eat something he's not willing to try.. or force food on him in anyway. Offer a variety of food and make the child choose if and what he wants to eat.
I think the biggest think to help combat childhood obesity is to work on combatting adult obesity.
