Hi all -- I'm kinda sorta but not really new (been a member of iVillage since the AOL days but, for the most part, I'm a long-time lurker). Here's my story:
I'm 41, married to my wonderful husband who is good to me, loves me through thick and thin, and thinks I'm stunning. I have five children and, until baby #4 came along, I had an amazing body and was very active in sports and as an aerobics instructor. I had a tubal ligation in 1997. From that point forward, my metabolism took a nose dive and I packed on the pounds. I now weigh 240 lbs at 5' 5" and feel like a walking watermelon. The trouble is, I am so tired about 70% of the time that I just can't seem to get motivated to do anything. What little energy I do have is reserved for my job and running errands with my family.
I'm not a depression eater and I actually do eat pretty healthy foods with the very occasional cheat-treat. I actually used to be an aerobics instructor who helped others lose weight; I know the rules and, for the most part, I still live by them. My biggest downfall has been my lack of energy and I just don't know what to do to get my energy back.
Some things I'm trying as of this weekend:
I think I haven't been sleeping enough so I'm making sure I sleep at least 7.5 hours per night (until this past weekend, I was sleeping 6 hours).
I am horrible about drinking water so I have also increased my water intake.
I hope like crazy that these two changes will help me get on track to regain some energy so I can actually make myself go for a walk or - dare I dream it? - get back into a gym!
Anyway, it's nice to say hello to all of you and I hope to get involved with others who want to lose weight like I do.

WORKING ON GOAL # 2
JOGGING MY WAY TO 175 BY
I know you problably know but once you get moving the energy comes. But the sleep and water increases will help too! Good luck!

Welcome aboard and best of luck to you. I know how you feel about no energy. I too used to be thin and worked out all the time til I got married......LMAO He moved me away from my buddies that I went to the gym with everyday. I was on steroids back then for my lungs and working out is the ONLY thing that kept me from being fat as I ballooned from 140 to 175 in about 2 months from bcp and steroids. Then I steadily gained up to 185 by the time we got together and I moved to him. After that I got pg and there it went.......LMAO
But we can do this despite no energy. We have to figure it out. Good luck

Hi everyone and thanks for your welcoming messages! Angela, it sounds like you and I are in very similar shoes indeed!
Well, to report on my first day of sleeping more with greater water intake: so far so good! I actually felt "okay" with crawling out of bed today (I didn't exactly jump out of the sack but I didn't feel like, "Oh wow, how am I going to get through the day?" either so that's a major milestone)! Even better, I usually have a mid-afternoon slump where a quick sugar buzz picks me up and... I didn't get the slump today. What's more, today is the first day of "aunt flow" -- a surefire energy killer for me, and other than feeling a little icky just because it's that time of the month, I felt... not too bad!
I'm just putting one foot in front of the other and seeing what happens so, hey, this feels like a pretty decent start.
I've got to go eat dinner but I'll come back and write more when I can.
Thanks again, everyone, for the warm welcome!
I'm a little late but: welcome to the board!! I'm 5'5'' too and I
