well, i guess technically i'm a newbie anyway. my name is katie, and i've been an ivillage member since 2001/2002 but have only been active on the self-injury board. I have been overweight since i was about 9 years old, and over the summer i finally decided (i'm 23 now) to join a gym, change my eating habits, and get myself under better control. I realize i will probably never be a 120lb twig, but at this point i would be thrilled just to be a 210lb chubby girl. lol! i'm currently anywhere between 304lb and 312lb (i go back and forth really quickly) and would ultimately like to be about 175lb. (which i don't think is unreasonable)

well now my sister has announced that she is getting married in this coming july and i'm her maid of honor. i just don't want to be the size 26 maid of honor. we bought dresses today and while i'm happy with the way the dress looks, even at my current size...i know i don't want to look this way any longer.

so...i guess what i'm saying is...i'm glad i ran across this board because i could REALLY use the support! And any new ideas for weight loss are much appreciated. the only options i don't want to resort to are very restrictive diets and surgery...that's just not for me. i want to do life-long modification of my life habits.

Welcome to the board Kati.. we're glad you're joining us. I hope we can offer you all the support that you need. We have a great group of ladies here and it's a really fun, supportive and motivational board.


I guess you have a nice goal to lose weight for.. I'm not doing any specific plan myself, just focusing on the quality of food I"m having and trying to have exercise as part of my daily routine. How are you planning to start?

i'm really not sure how to start...i think that's the biggest problem. i know i need to eat BETTER. definitely. but i also know that cutting out my favorite treats all together is just asking for trouble. so my last grocery trip had some tilapia filets, and veggies, and just a couple of junky things.

a big thing for me is getting the motivation to get up in the morning and go to the gym.

so...i guess i'm just starting by working out and trying to eat better. give that a month of so and see where it takes me.
