"Are you fixing that personality?"

I went to lunch with my sister today, and she told me about an encounter she had with a customer at her work.

She was helping him out, giving him advice about his purchase, and hooking him up with discounts and special deals. Towards the end of the transaction, he looks at her and says, "Are you slimming down?"

She was bewildered at first, wondering what he meant. He went on to say, "Because you seem like you have everything a guy could ask for. You'd be quite a catch if you lost some weight."

A total stranger! Where does he get off?! I couldn't believe it, and felt for her.

My sister has had a long, difficult struggle with her health. Some of her medications have caused her to gain weight. So has emotional eating, and all the other food issues many of us struggle with.

But for someone to say that to her! I wanted to find him, and tell him that he'd "be quite a catch, if he wasn't such a jackass!"

Her coworkers gave her a break so she could collect herself before returning to work, and kept an eye out for when he came back to pick up his purchase so she wouldn't have to deal with him.

What is it that makes some people think it's okay to say whatever they want to anyone, anytime?

What a jerk. I probably would have gotten fired cuz I wouldn't have been the least bit nice to him. I may have even slapped him before I realized what I was doing. Can I come find him for you??? OMG!!! I hate insensitize idiots and believe me I have met my share of them around here.

Hug your sister from me and tell her she is better than him so it doesn't matter what he thinks. Kudos to her for not responding!! Must be a tough woman!!

Simply outrageous!! And you know what's really pitiful is that he probably meant it as a compliment of some sort (you know trying to tell her she's a real catch but in an a$$hole sort of way). Give your sister a hug from me too and tell her she shouldn't mind jerks like that.

I had a similar thing happen to me in college..
my freshman year, i had a roomate (Stephanie) who was a Senior.

At the time i weighed about 170 and my roomate was one of those girls that had to have everything name brand etc.. well her boyfriend told her "Sara would be perfect if she just lost some weight".. and can you believe she actaully told me about it..
and of course my smart ass response to her was "well, he'd be the perfect man if he had a larger dick"

needless to say we were not roomates after that.

LOL - I love that response! I can see myself saying something like that, and getting myself fired.

I'm surprised my sis didn't say something like that - she's usually pretty outspoken. He just took her completely by surprise.
