In my family it's chiffon pumpkin pie, one of the few desserts from my great grandmother's recipe book. Much lighter than the more common sort with evaporated milk or cream because you use skim milk and fold in beaten egg whites. It's awesome and my favorite kind of dessert because I am usually satisfied after one piece. (DH's family is now sold on it too and now it's the pie of choice. I think Misha mentioned making something like this too. Mmmm.) Happy Thanksgiving! Annie

food traditions: norwegian food at thanksgiving and Xmas. (klub, rommegrot, lefsa etc)

We exchange names for gift giving and we always open our presents on Xmas eve.

For Thanksgiving, the tradition is to phone my mother for her apple pie recipe... wherever we are, even though we all have it committed to memory, and sometimes aren't even baking.

Thanksgiving, my family gets together, cooks entirely too much food but it last us all for days LOL, and afterwards we put up our christmas trees and decorate for christmas!! Still going strong even though we are all out of the house! Christmas, Dh's family does theirs early, my folks on christmas eve, and santa on christmas morning!! Here there is a BIG bonfire party every New's Year's Eve and fireworks as well, I will miss that when we move!!

Ah, traditions, these are a little strange in my family due to our peculiar backrounds. My dad's side of the family is Irish Catholic, my mom's side is German and Polish Jewish and Cherokee. So we get the whole mish mash. For Christmas my grandma usually makes a turkey with all the fixings. For Hannuka we do kosher, but it's something differant every year, my favorite is matzaa ball soup and that egg based bread. And for the Cherokee new year it's always venison. But mostly our traditions are heavily based on alcohal consumption and hanging out and talking. Usually pretty fun, sometimes it can get ugly though.

DH and I have a tradition if you consider watching "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" a tradition...lmao!

When I was a little girl we actually still had a place to go chop down our own tree (for free).

A lot of my holiday traditions went by the boards during my marriage.
