May I Join?

I lurk here a bit and was hoping I could join on in for some support from women who get it. I'm a SAHM of a 2 yo and a 1 yo and am actually heavier than when my 1 yo DS was born. Yuck! I actually have about 80 lbs to lose, but I'm hoping that's close enough because on other weightloss boards, everyone's looking for like 10 or 20 lbs! That's so different from trying for real, life-changing weight loss.

So here's my story. Staying home is a challenge for me with eating...instead of sitting down and thinking about what I eat, I grab bad stuff and eat ALL DAY LONG! I also have struggled with PPD this whole year, and finally started taking an antidepressant this week. I'm hoping to have a bit more energy and motivation now. And I really want to teach my kids the right way to eat, and model the importance of regular exersize.

I'm wondering: how do you set goals? Do you set them in pounds or specific actions (i.e. exersize at least 90 min/week)? What motivates you? I don't exersize AT ALL and eat mostly crap, so I need all the help I can get!

TIA

Kathy -- 84 lbs to go!

Hi and welcome! I set small goals that I know I can attain. For example, if I set a goal to exercise EVERY day..well for me, I know that isn't going to happen. I would absolutely fail at that. So my goal this week is to exercise 4 days. THAT I think I can do. Also, take the weight loss goals in small increments. Just work on 10 lbs. 80lbs can feel overwhelming so I just do ten at a time. Good luck and again,.welcome.

Welcome aboard Kathy! I think the "100 pounds" label can be misleading. Needing to lose 70 or 80 pounds is a lot more like 100 than 10 or 20, isn't it? Looking forward to seeing you around! Annie

Welcome aboard Kathy!!

Everybody here sets goals in a different way. Because everyone is at a different stage and is doing something different I think it helps more. I myself focus on exercise these days. I try to get 5 exercise sessions per week. Previously I was aiming at 3. We have
