Hi to everyone. This is my second post as I posted my starting weigh-in for the week of 11/27/06. It is amazing what motivates us to do something. I have been reading posts on the various expecting and playgroup message boards for many years, posting only once to help someone with some information for non-invasive pre-natal testing. I have always wanted to post more, but just never did. Then I found this board and it was like, this is what I have been looking for, and may not have even realized it!
I'm 42 years old and have been overweight for many years. I had a few thin years in my early to mid twenties. But the weight started to come back on, slowly at first, and then not so slowly.
I have three beautiful children that I am still in awe of. My son is 8 1/2 years old, and my two daughters are 5 1/2 years, and 20 months old. I was overweight for each pregnancy and always wanted to be thin for one pregnancy. I had my third child at 40 years old, having conceived her right before my husband's surgery for prostate cancer, and after I had been told that I probably had poly-cystic ovarian disease and probably could never have any more children. Needless to say, that wasn't the case, and we had our little Sophia, a miracle not only in that she is here, but in the joy she brought, and still brings to my husband. At a time of such sadness she brought us life. What a wonderful thing to behold.
I had wanted to write more, but my 5 year old woke up and is crying. I wish everyone the best of luck in their weight loss journey. I am glad to have this chance to come along for the ride!

Welcome to the board Liz, we're glad you decided to post here. I hope we can offer you all the support and motivation you need to lose the weight.
So, what sort of plan are you following (if any). I am not following a specific plan myself, just trying to eat better and exercise.. proved to be more difficult that I realised LOL.
In your other post you mentioned you already lost 12 lbs.. Congratulations!! BTW, we usually use our all-time-high weight as a starting weight (and not just the weight when we joined the board).. afterall these are pounds lost and we deserve credit for them!!
Best of luck on your weight loss journey.. keep us posted
Hi Liz,
I saw you in another thread but I just wanted to say again, Welcome to the board! It's a good place to be.
Hi Liz, First I want to say welcome and best of luck!!
I know what you mean about the joy a child brings. 4 yrs ago my drs. told me the reaction I was having to BCP was so severe that I couldnt' take them anymore and I had 2 options, have another baby or get fixed. LOL It appears I am allergic to BCP of almost every form so we chose to have another child as we wanted a son very badly and had 2 beautiful girls. I got pg immediately (first cycle off) but sadly it was an ectopic and fortunately that I got to the ER in time to save myself I didn't save my tube. After that, the dr. told me I too had PCOD and with only one remaining tube my chances of concieving were possible but low. For 1 yr my heart broke every month, then ironically I gave up trying re-enrolled in college and found out the next day my son was on his way........LOL it is really strange how things work out sometimes. He has a very special place in all our hearts and my girls spoil him more than anyone else so he is definitely one spoiled child.

Hi Liz, welcome to the board! I've had just a few thin years in life too, late 20s/early 30s, but then got married and gained it all back and then some. I don't even have pregnancy as a reason, either. My hubby and I both like to eat, unfortunately, so at least we're both fat! We're doing this together, so it makes it much easier to plan meals. Now we just need to get that darn exercise in...
Good luck on your journey and I look forward to posting with you!

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I'm home sick from work, and came to the site and got cheered up! I am not using any specific plan/program right now. I go to a nutritionist due to diabetes and have gone to Weight Watchers. I guess I am combining the two, though they are really not too diferent from each other. I am watching my carbs, but not eliminating them. I try to have a protein with each snack, as my nutritionist has recommended. I did ok for a while, and then gave up for a while. I am motivated again, and appreciate all the words of encopuragement! I weighed myself this morning and was down 3 pounds (mostly water weight I am sure, but happy nevertheless).
I will change my starting weight to include the 12 pounds I lost before finding this board, thanks for the recommendation. Continued good luck to all.
