With all the holiday pictures everyone wants to take... Do you have anything you do to make yourself seem slimmer for pictures or to make yourself seem better in the mirror?

three things I do:
1. With dark brown eyeshadow or eyeliner I shade under my chin all along my jawline so that there seems to be a shadow (making sure it is VERY blended) It helps reduce the appearance of a double chin. With the left over make up that is on my fingers from blending, I sweep it lightly under my cheekbones - again to give a shadow and make it seem like I have some structure to my round face.

2. BLACK - wearing black - I know we all hear it about how slimming black is but - oh my goodness - it can look soo hot. I also, usually wear lower cut black shirts - to bring attention to my neck and chest and away from my waistline.

3. Standing straight - this helps in two ways - one, it enlogates your torso and helps distribute the rolls better and two - it makes you feel so good and powerful :)

what things do you do to make yourself look better?

also here is a pic that I took, using the above tips - I am 250 in this pic (it was a few months ago) but the shadowing really helps...

Thanks for the make-up tips. I am going to try the shadowing thing for my chin, or should I say chins. Whenever I look at a picture of myself I always mention how it is a great picture of me and my 3 or 4 chins. My friends laugh and so do I, too bad it's a true comment! Your picture looked great. I'll try to remember to let you know how it works for me.

If it's a full length picture, stand sideways.. works miracles!

really? I have always been scared to stand sideways. - I'll try that - cause I try very hard to stay away from full length pics, lol. Thanks :)

Just to be sure I'm being clear.. I meant standing with an angle, not totally sideways like in a mug shot LOL. It helps when you're "forced" into a picture LOL..

Yeah, you have to angle yourself and put one foot in front of the other. (Friends of mine who are women of color are great at this! I tease one friend that she and her sisters must have a handbook for doing this because they always look great in full-length photos. Her family does a great job of hands on hips and shoulders back too. LOL)

My only real tip is I like to grab my kids and hold them in front of my bulges. Works better every year they get bigger. :-) Annie

P.S. We have to remember that as much as we might hate seeing pictures of ourselves that to our loved ones we are treasured. They see us in our our, ahem, splendor all the time and it's not fair to deny them photos of us.

I have two tips that I use, one is to use either a darker cover up color or some blush depending on how comfortable you are with that and darken the area from the temple to below the cheek bone. It adds shape. Also, a bit of white eyeshadow well blended just below the eyebrow from the arch out lightens your eye a bit.

Blessings,
Thanks for the tips on the chin!

Very well said Annie, thanks for pointing me out to this. I never thought of it this way.

It's a hard thing to face, Mary. One day I realized that I wasn't in a lot of pictures with my kids and I thought: "What if I got hit by a bus tomorrow? The pictures left behind would make it look like I left their lives even sooner than I did because there are so few of them." Plus, I know when I look at pictures of the people I love I don't pick at things like: big butt, bad hair, ugly sweater. What I see is their beauty.

Thanks for this post! I found alot of useful information here!
I have not been in any pictures with my kids since they were babies and now there 15 and 12 I feel really really bad for this espically reading what you all said about how its important to them I never thought of it that way I guess!
I just never could stand to look at myself in pictures its a horrid sight to see! But now I see thats very selfish of me and I must change this way of thinking!
Well this is just another step to get to the place I want to be in facing the reality that I must lose weigh not only for me but for my kids!

I can do anything I set out to do...
