Hello everyone I am new here and would like to introduce myself.
My name is Charity and Iam a 32 year old stay at home mom.
I currently weigh 270 lbs and am 5'7 so I am well over my suggested weigh I would like to get down to 160 again but the thought of getting there scares me!
I have suffered with a depression/anxiety problem for the past 2 years or so and I have finally got that under control enough to where I can now focus on my weigh and I am so confused on how to even start.
If any one here can help me get going I would greatly appreciate it for this would be the greatest gift I could ever get!
Hope to get to know you all!
Hugs

Welcome, Charity! The best advice I can give you is the old Nike slogan: Just Do It! LOL. I've also had depression problems for years, now mostly under control, and doing almost anything was a big production for me; I had to think about it, whine about it, try to motivate myself to do it...now, when I can, I tell myself: Just do it! It doesnt' work 100% of the time, but do the best you can each day. Make a list of things you want to accomplish for the day (not too many!) and then just do them. It helps a lot with depression!
As to diet and exercise, I'd say to eat a healthy, balanced diet so that you don't feel deprived or that anything is off limits. "The 90/10 Plan" was a wonderful book that I used a few years ago with a healthy plan, included snacks and various calorie levels. I believe the author was Joy Bauer. Right now, I'm on a "diabetic diet" given by my doctor. I actually got the same diet from two different docs, so if you ask about it, they might give you the same one. Even if you're not diabetic, it's still healthy eating and I don't feel like I'm missing much. I'm on 1200 calories and my dh is on 1800.
Exercise as you can. I know for me, I haven't exercised in a long time, so I'm starting with just moving more and staying busy. Then adding my walking tapes into the mix, then going back to my gym for weight training, probably in January. As you get stronger and more fit, you can do more.
Good luck to you, and I look forward to getting to know you too! Oh, hey, I just found out today that I've lost 12 lbs. in the last six weeks! I'm so excited. I haven't been weighing myself, because I wanted to feel like I'm really changing my eating habits and lifestyle without focusing on the scale. So...they weighed me at the doc's office today and boy was I surprised! If I can do it, you can too!

First off congrats on your weigh loss 12 lbs is a great accomplishment!
You have some great tips for me and I do have it set in my mind to do this so I hope that means I am destined to succeed this time lol.
I just know I have SAID this in the past and have never really had a support system to keep me motivated!
My husband tells me I am fine the way I am and all the people I am with daily are smaller people so they just dont understand what its like.
I feel in some ways my husband wants me to stay this way because he dont have to worry about people looking at me but he dont realize what it does to me inside!
When looking in the mirror becomes your worse nightmare then there is a problem!
Thanks for responding and listening to me it makes me feel like someone cares:)
I can do anything I set out to do...
Oh, yeah, I can relate totally. Hubby and I were perfectly happy eating our way through life (I've always been heavy, so I'd just decided to accept it). But then the doctor insisted that he was prediabetic and had to take off the weight soon! I don't have the hypertension and high cholesterol that he does, but I decided that it was high time I do something about my body as well, so we're doing it together.
I don't suppose your husband would go on a healthier eating plan with you? It helps a lot that I can fix us one meal that we both eat, his portions are just a little bigger. If you have to go this alone, be really vigilant on your portion sizes; you can eat *almost* anything and still lose weight. For example, we love pasta. Used to eat almost a whole box between us at one sitting. Now we have one cup (a 2 oz. serving) of cooked past each and that's it. It's not always easy, but at least we still have our beloved spaghetti once a week. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to work in pizza, lol.
This is a great board for support and finding other people who know exactly what you're going through. Know that I DO care, and this is all so much easier if we can help each other. Sometimes, just talking about a rotten day makes it easier to cope with. I keep a food journal and a regular journal as well.
Thanks for your congrats. I'm sure you'll be losing right along with me soon!

Pasta huh now your speaking my language!
Health problems I totally understand and for some reason since I was 15 I have had high blood pressure I was finally put on meds after the birth of my 2nd child in 1994 and have been on meds ever since even on meds my blood pressure dont go as low as it should I think it runs on medicine 130/90 so its still not good so a diet is extremly important to me the good news is I dont like or use salt so that is a plus now I just have to work on portion sizes and exercising! exercising is just so hard when I feel tired all the time doing nothing! Thinking about exercising makes me extremly sleepy if I could just overcome that I think I would do better also!
I can do anything I set out to do...
Me again, lol. Yes, the less I do, the less energy I have. I can just fall asleep in the recliner on days I don't work. But when I have a busy day, I also have more energy to keep going and I sleep better at night.
Once you start eating better, you do feel better too. I used to be so...groggy, I guess is the best word, all the time because my body was so busy digesting food all the time. Since this 1200 calorie thing started, I actually want to exercise...or at least feel like I could. Think of feeling invigorated and your heart is pumping and you are getting healthier with every minute of exercise! I'm a firm believer in positive affirmations, can you tell? ;-)
I don't have kids, but I do know they take up a lot of your time and energy (I'm a teacher), so make sure you carve out a little slice of time for yourself every day to take care of yourself. It will benefit your entire family!
