This might sound like an dumb question to ask. What the best time to exercise? Can you exercise in the evenings and still get the same result?

Rocehelle,
This is just my opinion...no scientific facts.

The best time to exercise is the time you are most likely to do it.

If you bounce out of bed and greet each new day with joy, then maybe working out first thing would be good for you.

If your mornings and nights are crazy with family stuff, then fitting in a workout at lunch can be the solution.

If you have trouble getting time to yourself during the day, then maybe you can carve out time a few nights a week to exercise- in front of the TV, at the gym, whatever.

I almost always exercise after work, but sometimes that isn't the best option and I find another time. I don't see any big difference in results based on time of day.

What works for me is that I plan my workouts each week - what nights I'll go to the gym, what nights I'll work out at home, what days I'll walk, and unless there is some disaster, I don't give the time up. BUT, I am single and childless so am pretty in control of my time. On the other hand, the people in my life are very aware that I don't compromise on my gym time, and I do sometimes give up 'fun' things to go work out(which has become fun for me, believe it or not)

Another question can be 'What exercise is best' and I have a similar answer -'The one you'll do' Like -running uses more calories than walking, but sitting on the couch thinking about how you HATE to run so you won't go today doesn't use any calories so 'I'll go for a nice brisk walk' is a better choice...My suggestion is to make a list of all the possible exercise things you might do and then when they could fit them in your life and just try different things until you find some things that feel good to you and if you get bored/tired of what you are doing, revisit your list and switch things up.

Good Luck on your journey!

Thanks for the advice. I tend to not like getting up in the morning but have more energy at night. I was thinking of starting slowly since I'm so unfit and walk at least 3 times a week with my dog in the evening and then build up from there.

I agree with SJ.. whatever time you can exercise, that is the best time
