Hello all. I went and seen a new family physician today and he is ordering some bloodwork to check my thyroid and my sugar levels. He also said there might be a need to up my metformin from 1500mgs a day to something more. He also said that I should have been being treated for my pcos which I am not. Basically he is saying that my my weight issues are for metabolic reasons. He is even thinking of sending me to an endocrinologist based on the finding of my bloodword that is being drawn in the morning. I am also to see a diatician and my first visit is also in the morning. I am excited to find out what the diatician has to say but nervous at the same time. I also don't understand what the dr. means by metabolic. One last quick note.............my weight today was 316lbs and my bp was 138/94.

Any thoughts?

Hi Angie,
Just wanted to wish you good luck at the dietician and I hope it goes well. Sorry, I don't know what metabolic means, but be sure to ask in the morning. Good luck again and let us know how it went.

Hi Angie--

Good luck at the dietician this morning! I hope you get lots of good advice, and an extra dose of motivation... I went to one that I loved for a couple of months, and it was really helpful.

I'm guessing that your doctor thinks that your metabolism runs inefficiently, and that that makes it harder for you to lose weight, or stay at a healthy weight as easily as some people may. If the tests determine that something's out of whack (thyroid hormones, for example), they may prescribe somthing (synthetic hormones, for example) to set this straight. Which may make your weight loss that much simpler. How's that for a nice, non-scientific bit of jargon, LOL?

Let us know how it goes...

Hey Angie,

I can't wait to hear how it goes today too. What kind of treatment is there for PCOS - I didn't really think there was one. I have it too, and they considered putting me on glucaphage, but since I don't eat sugar at all, they ended up not. I don't know why.

Good Luck! Your Bp wasn't that bad, it is borderline but not that bad considering the weight issues. Metabolic pretty much is that something is wrong with your metabolism and most likely with PCOS it is hormonal so I wish you the best of luck there too.

I am unsure about a treatment for pcos. I only know that the doctor said that I shoulda been being treated for it. But then again he is a family physician.
