Well I tried my new Pilates video and I really liked it. It was harder than I thought it would be and definitely a good workout. The only problem I had was with some back pain from trying to do the exercises on the bare floor instead of on a mat as the video instructor recommended. Guess I need to get a mat.

Hello. I'm very new here, and I plan on starting Pilates tomarrow. I'm extremely obese, and hope this can help me get motivated to lose what weight I have. Any tips?

Would it happen to be the one called "Circle Workout"? Dee? I bought that recently, but haven't tried it yet for fear that it would be too hard. My abs sure need the work though! I'll need to find a mat too.

Hi, Dee---

So glad you liked your Pilates! I love this stuff, although it is harder than it looks, right? It seems to be really, really effective for toning... as long as you pay close attention to your form. The instructor I sometimes go to was very clear about that when I was just beginning. Better to do a shorter workout than to be sloppy with your form, she says, and I agree.

Happy Hundreds!

Welcome!

Congrats on your decision to take a step in the right direction. The pilates wasn't hard, but my muscles did get a better workout than I was expecting. I've just started doing Pilates, so I can't give you a true evaluation of it's effectivness personally, but everyone I've spoken to says it really does work.

Whether you chose Pilates, another exercise, or a combination of many exercises, remember this:

Any exercise, no matter how short or how easy a workout, is better than doing nothing.

You can do it and we're all here to offer our support and advice.

The pilates DVD I have is "Windsor Pilates". So far, I'm only doing the Basics: Step by Step workout which is just under 30 minutes long. It's at a nice, easy pace and focuses on proper form. Mari Windsor explains each movement and has two people demonstrating. One does the standard version of the exercises, while the other does modified versions for people who have "delicate" necks or backs.

Pilates is like doing slow-motion super-controlled movements. It really focuses on the abdominal area (I really need that too!). This is turning in to one of my favorite workouts.

Mine is Windsor Pilates too; ordered from television. It came with a plastic circle thing that you are supposed to use for resistance during the workout. Then they send DVDs every other month or something, but I don't have any yet. I like Mari Windsor and they do make it look easy; I'll definitely try it out while I'm on Christmas vacation! I'll let you know if it's a keeper.

I am considering buying winsor pilates myself. But I was hesitant if it was "challenging" enough (I'm pretty flexible).. so what do you think? Shall I go for it or look for something else?
