Diet programme should I go on?
| Fri, 12-29-2006 - 7:13am |
Ok I want to start losing weight on Monday. So far I been eating less and healthier. I don't know what diet programme to go on and what the cheapest. Since hubby is unemployed and I'm a student. Can someone please tell me what one to go on? Also what foods do I need to buy.
Thanks in advance

Rochelle, nobody can tell you what program to choose, since each of us have different preferences and needs. But it you want support, or ideas, you've apparently come to the right place! Explore the iVillage website - there seem to be a wide range of food plans and ideas.
Good luck to us in our quest to better health!
Rochelle, nothing has to be expensive. If you eat a healthy, balanced diet and control those portions, you will lose weight and your grocery bill might even go down. Mine did!
Ask your doctor for a healthy diet plan (I got the diabetic diet, which works even if you're not!) or go online and look for references to "food exchange list" for equivalent foods and portion sizes. You want about 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. Or something similar; doesn't have to be exact. You also want to aim for about 1200-1500 calories a day; anything within those limits can be considered a successful day. Buy fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads and cereals, lean meat and cheeses and nonfat or lowfat dairy products. If you can afford it, buy a good multivitamin to take every day. And drink that water and get moving!
That's what I've been doing anyway, and I've lost about 25 lbs. since September. Everyone is different and some people do well on diets that tell you what to eat and when, but I like this way because I eat what I feel like eating that day (within the guidlines, of course) and I don't feel restricted at all. Or hardly ever, anyway.
I hope this helps, but the important thing is what you're already doing: eat less and eat healthier. Good luck!

HI.. and welcome.
i think the "cheapest" way to go would be to start counting calories, watch your portion sizes and start journaling, write down everything you eat
there are alot of free weight loss sites online that you can use to track your progress
I personally use this one.

Thanks for the information. I might do the counting calories diet. And stick to do the swimming or aqua aerobics since it hurt my ankle to walk to far.

Hey, good for you with the swimming/aquacize! I have joined an Arthritis with Attitude aquacize class at the Y and am amazed. It seems so easy while I'm in the pool, but it helps my balance and strength so much. I'm hoping it'll help ease the discomfort I feel when walking. So far it's helped a smidge (it's been a month), and I was able to do the Charleston (dance) the other day! Yippee! A longer term goal is to be able to line dance again, in time for my friend's 59th birthday party (in Sept).
I was reading Dr. Sears' book about heart health a while ago (don't remember the title). In it, he described the importance of interval exercising (that's a buzzword in sports medicine these days, it seems). Well, I started trying it in the pool, and it helped tons!
Now, if I can just stick with the exercise, I'll see the weight come off. Patience, patience, patience!!!!!!!!
Good Luck, Rochelle.
