Happy New Year to all of you! My name is Mary Beth. I live on the coast of Maine. I am a wife, mother of three, a teacher, have my own small business selling Mia Bella Soot free candles, a good friend, and oh yes....I have well over 100 lbs. to lose.
I am beginning the first day of the rest of my life today. From reading posts on this board, I can see it is a great place to get support for those of us with a substantial amount of weight to lose.
I have done this before....lost lots of weight (one time 150 lbs!) and have gained it back. I know how to lose weight, have done it all pretty much! It is the keeping it off that has presented problems for me. For now my plan is to eat healthy foods, from the right food groups. Getting rid of sugars and too much salt. Incorporating more fruits and vegetables into my diet. Drinking water. Taking my vitamins. As I begin to lose, I will fine tune my plan a bit. For today though my plan is to be in control of what I put into my mouth!
I imagine the new year will bring an influx of new people. I am hoping we newer members will gain support and strength from those of you who have been here awhile.
I will turn 50 in May. By then I want to be in control of my eating...which generally helps me have more control in my life in general.
Happy New Year to you all!
Mary Beth

Welcome and Happy 2007 to you.

Hi Mary Beth,
Welcome to the board, Mary Beth!
I've been around the board since the summer. Dropped 25 pounds and gained about 10 back and now I'm starting over too. Keeping it off and not feeling like I've "arrived" is a struggle for me too. (It's also a struggle not to starve myself to get results that are really hard to maintain.) You have so many cool things going on in your life. It will be a pleasure to get to know you and share the journey.
all the best,
Annie

What's this? Another "Mary" and she's a teacher too? I'm on the other side of the country, in Southern California and I am also a teacher. What do you teach? I don't have a permanent classroom yet, but my favorite grade is kindergarten. They really keep me on my toes!
I'm also right behind you in age (49 in February) so I hope we'll find creative ways to get that slowing metabolism into high gear! Let me know what you find and I'll do the same.
I think you're the 4th Mary here, but at least you'll be Mary Beth. My middle name is Elizabeth also, so I can't use that now. I just call myself "Mary #3" LOL. Anyway, welcome and I look forward to losing with you!

I'm Marlene (Mar to my friends), 51 today and have 100 lbs to lose. Like you I am a teacher (sub only) and the owner of my own business. Just started in August. I have a party business and provide costumed characters for children's parties, events, and deliveries. It's hard sending out thin, beautiful s that look like your favorite princess and all I get to be is the Fairy Godmother or Mrs. Potts. Oh well, I am healthy and happy.
Today I joined Fitday.com and ivillage for support. Fitday is an online diet center where you can (free)log in your food intake and chart your weight loss. You might want to check it out.
I pray you and I have great success this year. You are right, we know how to take it off, it's just the keeping it off that I have a problem with. I will tell you that the last couple of years it's been much harder to take it off and so much easier to put it back on.
Perhaps we can work together this year and encourage one another. Here's to much success in the new year. MAR
Welcome aboard from another Mary LOL
Best of luck on your journey.. the group here is great and you'll have plenty of support. It looks like you're already got a great plan to work on.. again best of luck!
