Hi, my name is Marlene. I am 51 today and need to lose 100 lbs. I am looking for friends to help encourage me and friends that I can encourage also. Today I joined Fitday.com and ivillage just to get me started in the right direction. Like all of us I know what to eat and have a very good diet. I have a problem with hunger. Seems I am always hungry. Portion sizes are too big and I can't think of a single food I don't like. I love food, eat too fast, and have a hard time chewing as I should. In my late thirties I started to pick up weight and now I am twice the woman I was.
I started a new business this past August and that helps keep me busy, but still have too much time on my hands. to exercise and love TV. Could be in trouble, but I have high hopes.
If my life sounds even a little like yours perhaps we can help each other. I'll be waiting to hear from you and wishing you great success this year. We can do it...together. MAR

Hi, Mar! I lost two pounds, which is great considering all the holiday eating I've been doing. I'm sure it all came off after the 1st, but it's all good! Now I don't have any more big eating occasions until February.
I like 2nd grade too. Much more independent than Kindergarten! If I get chosen for interview for this job, it probably won't be for a month or more, so I'm just going to forget about it and work on assembing things to take with me, like previous pics of my classrooms or sample parent newsletters. I am not letting this one get away and I'm not even going to think about what happens if it does!
I'm about 50 miles east of LA, so it is pretty nice here. We've been in the 60s too, and we're freezing! LOL. Next week is supposed to be 70s, so I'm looking forward to that. It's not so big-city here and we are close to the local mountains so I can look out the window and see a little bit of snow. Nothing remarkable about my city that I can think of; in the past, it was a big center of the orange-growing industry. Tell me about PA!
Well, I've got to get grocery shopping before dinner time, so I'll sign off. Have a great day and low calorie wishes to you!

Yeah!!! For two pounds. That's wonderful over the holidays. I couldn't begin until after Christmas and New Years. I tried, but know myself too well. Kind of just watched what I ate or at least how much I ate.
Have you involve in any of the wild fires. I am terrified of fire. My son (now 29) was caught in a fire at 13. He was burned from his hips down. We spent 18 mos. with skin grafts and trips to the burn unit. He's fine now, but I still am not comfortable around fire.
Pa is beautiful. Spring is fresh and green, Fall is so colorful. I love these two seasons, they make the other two livable. The snow is so pretty, but I the cold, as I am originally from Florida. When the snow melts everything is just brown and dirty. Summer is brown before it's over. Brown is not my favorite color as you can tell.
We live right at the bottom of the Summit Mountains in Uniontown. Pittsburgh is about an hour and some change away. Our landmarks are things like Nemacolin Woodlands (a place where movie stars and the very rich come). Very nice, but very expensive. We have LAurel CAverns where you can go deep into the ground and look at all kinds of caves, they even have lights that blink according to the sound.
Our area is still nice, not to big or too small. Fayette County is one of the poorest in the country. Many people on welfare and unemployed. We have lots of Walmarts, K MArts, Food stores, and places to eat, but not enough industry.
Jerry and I have been blessed, he's had the same job for over 35 years. Not many in this area can say that. We work hard and have raised four children in the same house. It's not big and beautiful, but it's home and I am happy. We have 3 acres of ground that the boys all rode bikes and quads on. My kids grew up knowing the only other family (next door) that had kids their ages. It was a great time for little road. The other homes were full of retired and aged people. So quiet. Now we are surrounded by a younger different type. No kids, barking dogs, and lots of noise. My neighbors are all party people these days. We still have the family next door that my kids grew up with, but mom and dad divorced and the kids now run the property.
Wow, I like writing to you Mary. Somehow having a friend all the way across this huge country helps me. Nice to talk to you. Hope it continues.
Keep those calories low. Can't help but be excited at how we will have changed by the end of this year. Thanks, MAR
Hi, Mar! I'm sorry I didn't get to answer last night! I went back to work today, with those active little Kindergarteners, so I might be posting less for the first couple of days out of sheer exhaustion! LOL.
Thank you for telling me all about your family and PA. Life is good, generally, when we get older don't you think? I would only go back to an earlier age if I could take what I know now with me.
No, we're not near the wildfires, but it's a constant threat when there's very little rain. We've never been in immediate danger (knock on wood!), but have had orange skies from all the smoke in years past. I can see why you're terrified of fire! Thank goodness your son came out of it all right. I can't imagine what being burned over so much of the body would feel like, not to mention the painful recovery process. It's good that you live in a nice green state!
Well, I've got to go think about dinner, and then I have my monthly bunco group this evening. I will be tired tonight! It's hard to get back in the swing of things after three weeks off.
Take care and low calorie wishes!

Mary, You're starting back to work and I'm learning to cope with being home and alone. Who am I kidding...I'm never alone. My kids are always dropping by. Thank God.
Well, I weighed in on Monday, lost 7 pounds in my first full week on the "D". Always have a great frist week, now begins the trial. Sunday evening I had a hard time, all I wanted was food. I did break down and eat 5 chunks of the bag cheese, that seemed to help. The kids came over for game night and we ordered pizza. I think it was a trigger. Gonna have those days. Back on track yesterday and feeling good today.
What kind of group are you involved in? Sounds interesting.
Hey, I woke up this morning and the ground is covered with snow. We still had school, they hardly ever cancel.
Have a great time with your little ones. Do you eat better working or not? I find it easier at home, not so much temptation. At school the kids are always sharing their birthday cupcakes, teachers are always bringing in food, the parties, etc. Have you ever thought about why we always include food at every gathering? I would rather include games or good old fashioned conversation. Maybe we should start a new movement in this country.
Miles to go today so I'll say goodbye for now. Write as you can. Keep thinking low calories. MAR
