Hi my name is steph. I am 18 and a senior at my highschool. I am about 250 lbs, and yet i am in marching band i run around all the time and play football, soccer, basketball, and softball for fun all the time yet i don't seem to lose any weight. I know that i am way over my weight for my age and height which is 5'7. I eat salads for lunch at school and about a half a can of mt dew in the morning before school. And after that it is normally oj or water or unsweetend ice tea. I do snack on junk food from time to time but maybe a peice of chocolate here or there but maybe a piece or two a day not much after that unless i am depressed. I just don't seem to be losing any wieght, does anyone have any ideas?? I would appreaciate it.

thanks
steph

My guess is that you're not eating enough...and not eating the right foods.

I agree with Kelly that you're probably not eating enough. Let's see; you're young, tall and physically pretty active. You should be able to lose weight easily on a healthy 1500 calorie diet. This means eating a good breakfast, a protein packed lunch and a sensible dinner. Snacks are okay too, if they're healthy. Having a soda before school does not count as breakfast, and it doesn't amp up your metabolism for a busy day. Also, fruit juice is very high in calories; you're better off eating an orange or banana than drinking the juice.

You can talk to your doctor to get a healthy diet or join Weight Watchers or check out the many online sources. Remember to eat a healthy and balanced diet and don't try to cut out too many calories. Your body will reward you for it.

Best wishes!

Hi Steph,
Hard as it is, I suggest that you see your doctor if you haven't already. You need to rule out thyroid or other metabolic problems, especially at your age. You also got some good advice about eating, but you might want to consider increasing your aerobic exercise. Our bodies are great at adjusting to a certain activity level and still finding ways to hold onto weight. It would be a good idea to find something that you can do religiously every day and let the other stuff you do like band, soccer, etc. just be for extra fun.
Good luck!

Welcome aboard steph!!

I second Annie's suggestion, schedule an apointment with the doctor to rule any medical conditions, I've always heard that thyroid problems can really hinder weight loss.

hello,
Thank you for all the great advice. I went to the doctor yesterday even though it was not for this reason but i did bring it up and now they are going to run test after i get my x ray's today. But the food journal suggestion is a good one and one that i have begun. I have noticed a pattern i don't eat enough, and a little more junk calories when i do.Thank you again for all your help i will keep you updated...
