Hello everyone. I am like a few of the others I have read about. I am 325pd 5'3". BMI around 57. Problem is I'm not self motivated and I have no motivation from the people around me. I am married with 2 kids. Ages 10 and 2. I am also in school. This combination does not afford me the time I would like to get to the gym and workout even when I do have the energy. I think If I had more motivation the my energy level would increase. I am wondering what you guys are doing to get started. I've been told I lack the discipline to get kicked off in the right direction. Can someone please help me with this? I have more weight loss assistance in my home than I really care to talk about. Videos, weights, barbells, ab stuff, slim-fast shakes and bars, pills, everything. Not to mention most of the fruits and veggies I buy go bad before I eat them. It's almost like I'm not finding the in between place. I either want this miracle plan or I think I can just wake up one morning and say OK I'm dieting starting today. I NEED HELP!!!
Also, has anyone ever been told not to do weight lifting until you lose weight?
Thanks Lady

Welcome, Lady! Nice to have you. I think if you start eating healthier, you will begin to have more energy. I know that when I cut my portion sizes way down, I didn't feel so groggy and clogged with food. Those fruits and veggies help to clean you out, so to speak, and you can really feel the difference. Also drinking lots of water helps.
I'd start with a visit to the doctor, if that's possible. You should consult with him/her before beginning the exercise plan, for sure. You might even get a great diet from the doc: I got "The Diabetic Diet" (I know everyone else here is sick of hearing it, but I can't say enough good things about this plan!) You don't have to be diabetic; it's just healthy, balanced nutrition aimed at a certain calorie level that can vary from 1200 to 1800. There is NO magic plan. I know that's painful to accept, it was for me, but we have to think about changing our eating habits for the rest of our lives. You've got kids to take care of and school to get through, so you need to take good care of yourself first!
As to lifting weights, I'd say no, you don't have to wait. Weight training helps you build muscle mass, so that you don't lose it while dieting and also muscle burns more calories than fat! There are weights as little as 2-lbs. that you can use to begin strengthening arm muscles. Again, talk with your doctor about this, but I was doing quite a serious weight-training program a few years back when I had bad knees and high weight, under the guidance of a trainer. If this isn't possible for now, just concentrate on moving and getting that aerobic thing going. As you feel better, you might know when weight training is appropriate. One of my New Year's Resolutions was to get back to the gym, but I haven't been able to make myself do it yet. It's coming soon though!
Best wishes to you, you can make this happen with the right attitude! We're here for support and encouragement, so use this board as a resource whenever you need to. I look forward to losing and posting with you!

Welcome!
Welcome aboard Lady!
I think you could
Thanks everyone for your welcoming and support. I do have the diabetic diet and I'm happy to see that it has worked for you. I have visited the doctor and this is what she gave me. I am trying to starting today to get in my 8 glass of water or more if possible. I think I have about 15 to 20 pds of fluid. The doctor gave me fluid pills but I haven't taken them more that one here or there. We'll see how the day goes. It feels nice waking up and finding inspiration here. Thanks again guys!

Lady, does your doctor want you to take the fluid pills every day? If so, you really should. My doc also has me on a water pill, and I can really tell the difference now if I miss one. Right away, my ring gets too tight! But I take it every morning after breakfast and I feel just fine.

Hey Lady!
Thanks Girly. Not boring at all. While I don't think I'm quite ready for divorce, I do think about all the things I am missing out on while carrying this weight. Thanks for the story and the encouragement.
