Hi everyone!! My name is Cassandra, I am 29 years old, I have been married for 10 years, I have a son who will be 10 in a few weeks, and two daughters who are 8 and 5. I have always been a larger person. When my youngest child was born I lost 100lbs but I gained it all back plus a few. I started my new lifestyle journey on Oct. 9th. Since then I have lost 35lbs. I now have about 105 lbs to go to get to my first goal of 150. My biggest discouragment is that no one has noticed my weight loss. I have gone from a size 26 to a size 18/20, I have lost somthing like 35 inches all over, and no one noticed. My dh is awesome and of course he has noticed, but he is also the only person who knows about the change. I feel kind of alone and am looking for some friends that know what I am going through so I can talk about what works and what doesn't and so on. So thats me in a nutshell I guess.

yeah, doesn't if fell like a kick in the face when nobody seems to notice your wieght loss.
as for me.. only my family has commented on my weight loss, my fellow co-workers haven't really said much to me about it. maybe they are just to busy with their own lives to notice. or maybe since they are around me every single day, they don't notice the change because it is a slow process.
I know that when my friend/coworker lost her weight (over 100 lbs).. i knew whe was losing alot of weight, but i didn't really "see" it until i had been gone from work for 2-3 weeks and when i saw her again, i was like WOW what happened.
heck my co-workers didn't even notice that i was pregant (both times) until i was almost 7-8 months along. Of course i wieghed 271 & 301 at the start of both pregnancies, so i just looked like i was getting fatter, until i was 7 months along then my belly poppped out. There was 1 woman who asked my friend "Sara is looking so good lately, has she been doing something different with her hair/make up"... I thought that was riot...

Sara--Thanks for the response. That is too funny about people not noticing when you were pregnant. When I was pregnant with my two older kids I went through the same thing, no one could tell. The funny thing was I was at mcdonalds one day and I mentioned somthing about being 8 months pregnant and the woman behind the counter said, "no your not" and absolutly refused to beleive me. It was embarrassing for me then, but funny to think now. With my youngest I went to the dr. one time and the lady at the desk was rude and said, you need to tell us that you are here for an ob appointment, so the next time I went in I made sure and said, I am here for an ob appointment, and the lady behind the desk was like, duh, I can see that. Anyway, enough about that.
My dh tries to make me feel better and says that when spring comes people will notice more. We live in Alaska so we stay bundled up until April or May here, and I always wear baggy clothes. I am hoping to be down 70 or 80 lbs by then and maybe I will really wow people.
When I lost the 100 lbs before we lived in Texas and no one in our families had seen us in a year and we came home for a visit so it was a huge shocker and of course everyone noticed, now I gess since they see me all the time maybe they just don't notice. Last night I asked dh if I was invisible or somthing, I guess I feel like people really don't look at me or somthing.
Anyways..I look forward to lising weight with you! :)
Hi Nikki!! WOW, our older children are close in age huh? How is it being a mommy of a double digit kid? I keep thinking about it and just can't beleive he is almost 10.
I will tell you what I did. In Sept.I made the decision to get on the healthy track. I had finally really had enough. There are plenty of times where I have half tried, but was never really committed. This time I started reading and getting information and formulating a plan. I set my start date and did everything I could to be ready, really psyched myself up. I focus on getting between 1600-1900 calories a day, and get as much fiber rich food as I can, drink a ton of water. I am also working on not eating so much processed food, if you make things yourself you know what goes into it. I eat lots of veggies, I like the steam in the bag veggies that you just put in the microwave and they come out perfectly steamed. I eat baked sweet potato's, which are really, really good for you and taste awesome. If there is somthing I really want I will have a small amount and work it into my calories, but I have found that for the most part rich, high fat foods wreck havoc on my digestive system now. I do allow myself a skinny coffee drink every morning, the one thing I wasn't ready to give up, but I work it into my calories. I have my coffee shortly after I get up in the morning, then I start my eating two hours later and I eat somthing every two hours until 3 hours before my bed time. I work it all out on paper so I will get the right amount of calories. I also drink water constantly through out the day, in total about 4-6 litres a day. I am currently losing about 2 pounds a week, through the holidays I was able to keep it up and lose at least 1 lb a week. I also excercise, I did reading and learned that muscle building is a huge part of fat burning because muscle burns fat faster. So I do a hand weight circuit, I do the biggest loser cardio workouts, I do beginners yoga, I swim, I walk. I have to mix it up because too much routine bores me. But I try and do one of those activities everyday in addition to my hand weights. We have a gym membership which is where we swim and walk in the winter, and also do their weight machines when we can. The biggest thing I remind myself is I am loseing every week, it doesn't matter how fast it goes because the changes I am making are for life. So I just keep at it.
I will tell you I think the thing that got me sooo motivated to do this now is I have two naturally skinny children, like skinny, skinny, they take after their dad. But my middle child takes after me and although I watch what she eats and keep her active I know I am not setting a good example for her and as a family we weren't as active as we should be. I wanted to show her that even though she has a different body type that doesn't mean that she has to be fat, but she may have to work harder to keep it from happening. Now her and I can do it together. She is by no means fat now, but I am looking at the future and see myself in her.
Ok, that may be more than you wanted to know, sorry its a passionate topic for me. If you have any other questions let me know, or if you just want to chat.
Hi Shannon--I know how that goes too. In some ways I like the invisible feeling so maybe people don't notice how big I am, but its hard when you make progress and no one notices. Oh well, I just have to remember I am doing this for me, not for how people see me, I want to be a healthy, active mom!!
I am going to add you to my myspace friends!!
Thanks! I am always looking for more myspace friends ;) lol
youre absolutely right about not doing it for other people. That is good positive thinking! :) I need to become an active mother..LOL
I'm new to the board too. I'm 27 and weigh 265. I read the tips you wrote on this strand. I would like to try hand weights. I would love to hear about living in Alaska...I live in South Florida :-)
Samie
Samie--Hi!! Hand weights are great, you can search on the web for different excercises to do with them, and experiment at what is a good weight for you to lift. I love it.It doesn't take much time or equipment. I wish you much success. I am really pushing to get to my 40lbs lost mark right now, I like hitting the milestones.
Alaska is great, I was born in raised in Fairbanks, only leaving for 3 years while my husband was in the army. Sometimes I could do without the cold and dark, but it is such a beautiful place and the summers are awesome with 24 hours of daylight and all the wilderness and wildlife. We are about to hit a cold snap, and tomorrow it is supposed to be close to 40 degrees below zero for three or four days, I hate that part, but it sure makes 20 below (our normal winter temp) feel warm. When we were with the army we only lived in the south, Georgia and Texas, someday I would like to try living somewhere on the West coast or somthing a little more mild. But for now I think Alaska is an awesome place to raise kids, and its deffinatly a place full of diversities and culture. Plus getting that yearly dividend helps =)
If you want to know anything specific ask away, I love to talk about my home too!!
All through reading your post I was thinking, "Yep, she's got it!" You have a great attitude and great habits in place, and the extra motivation of setting a better example for your middle daughter! I will not wish you luck, because you know that YOU make it happen. I will say best wishes for continued success, I know that your posts are going to be an inspiration to me. Great job so far!
And did I read that you live in Alaska? Whereabouts? I've always wanted to visit there; it just looks so beautiful in all the pictures and movies I've seen. I've been fascinated with it since I was a little girl.
I look forward to posting and losing with you!
