Goal Setting-for the New members!

I've noticed that a lot of people are setting goals based on how many pounds they want to lose in a certain time- which is great...but....
The scale can be so not our friend - water retention, time of month, who the heck knows what, can combine to keep the scale where we don't want it to be. The disappointment for 'failure' to meet a goal can send me on a downward spiral...and I bet I'm not alone.
For me, it has been very helpful to set goals based on activity rather than 'the number'. Like saying -I will go to the gym three times this week - and then making a plan - deciding in advance what days I'll go, what I'll do when I get there, re-packing my gym bag as soon as I get home. Then I reward myself for the actions- (not with food...stuff like manicures, cheap jewelry, sleeping late on the weekend, etc) I also reward myself by saying out load 'Good job, I'm proud of you' when I meet my committment to myself.
This way, I am in control of the result - I either do the work or I don't, but I'm not unrewarded if my body has some idea that it doesn't want to give up any weight this week no matter how hard I've worked.
This might not 'click' with everyone, but I thought I'd put it out there anyway...
Best wishes to everyone who is starting or re-starting on this journey.

That definitely clicks with me. :) I like that idea alot. The fact that I have total control over meeting my goal or not is awesome. I think I'll set my goals on Sunday. :)
SOrry if that was too many smilies- LOL
