I came on after new year, full of motivation and it has drained out of me! My clothes keep getting smaller (nothing to do with my weight lol) and I am just wondering, have any of you lovely people got any tips for motivation?

I would be really grateful!

malline,
I am better at 'tough love' than hugs, so if this isn't what you need right now, please ignore the whole thing because I know others will give you different perspectives.

Here are a few questions for you to thnk about...

If you were motivated a few weeks ago, what motivated you? Did you want to look better? Feel better? Be healthier? Take control of your life? Are you now satisfied with how you look? Do you feel healthier? More in control? Do you no longer value what you originaly wanted?

What were your expectations? Did you hope to lose a big amount of weight and that didn't happen? Did you think you could change everything about your life all at once and it was just overwhelming? Did you have some small success and not cheer yourself on?

Do you have action based goals - not 'I want to lose 100 pounds' but 'I want to drink 64 ounces of water a day', or cut my soda consumption in half, or walk 20 minutes a day or whatever small changes you think you can make? If you have action based goals, do you have a plan to meet them - I'll break up my water drinking into these 8 times; I'll still have soda at 4:00, but that's it; I'll walk every day before lunch...or whatever. Do you have a plan to reward yourself for meeting your goals?

For me, I spent a lot of years saying 'I'll lose the weight when I'm ready' I knew my family was concerned about me, I was ashamed that I had let myself gain so much weight, but it wasn't until I figured out that I had to change my life in huge ways but that I could do it a little at a time that I got my act together.

This is the hardest thing I've ever done - I wish you the best on your journey.

Motivation really has to come from within you. All the people in the world can keep telling me that I need to lose the weight, but unless I am ready, it will never happen. So YOU have to find your own motivation. Get a piece of paper and write down why you want to lose the weight, and don't just write: to feel healthy and stuff like that.. also add the selfish and sometimes silly stuff (one of my top reasons is to wear boots).

Get another piece of paper and write down a mini-goal. 10lbs or even 5lbs. Tell yourself that you only need to lose that much. Write down in details how you're going to reach this goal. Don't try to make a super plan. Do a plan that works for you and set yourself goals that you can achieve.

Keep the 2 lists handy. Post them on the fridge if you need to. Review what you did each day and see what you can do better the next day. Even if you're not super motivated, consistency can take you there.

I hope this can help. Please post and tell us how you're doing.
