The best plan?

Hi everyone, I'm new here! Frustrated and confused, trying to figure out what the best plan is for me...

Tried just about everything and can't stick to whatever for the life of me. It must be something more than just the plan but I can't figure it out.

I did WW in the beginning of January, stuck to that for about a week. Then switch to Suzanne Somers which is whole grains/lot of fat/protein and was doing well but went through withdrawls in the beginning, went off plan for a few days and got very sick again, it's an endless cycle and I'm just so frustrated with myself.

Need support and encouragement.

Wondering what works for you?

Thanks,
Lisa

Hi Lisa and welcome to the board.

Deciding on a plan can get frustrating sometimes. What works for someone doesn't work for another. So you will have to experiment around until you find something that you can stick with for life. I heard a lot of positive things about WW's (although never tried it myself), what made you stop after a week? Was it calling for a lot of change that you can't do all at once? Were you looking for something more restrictive? Or is it the mentality of being on a "diet" that's not working? What exactly are you looking for in a plan?

Hi Lisa and welcome,
The hardest thing really is finding something that works for you personally and sticking with it. For me I only have short-range success on anything that restricts certain foods (like low carb or vegan). What I have discovered is that whatever I try unless I include regular exercise and keep calories in check my body finds a way to be happy and maintain whatever weight I'm at.

I have had a hard time getting back into the swing of things lately so I'm trying the 3-hour diet by Jorge Cruise. Essentially you don't go more than about 3 hours without eating something which is new for me as I'm a real 3 meal a day person. (If I had my druthers I'd skip breakfast and be a 2 meal a day eater.) Good luck finding what works for you! Annie

Why did you last only a week on WW's??

Did you just give up or could you literally not stick to the plan??

Losing weight is definitely a trail and error situation as many women on here have found out and proven. No one plan works for everyone!

I wish you luck finding the plan that is right for you!

I'm actually a low calorie dieter. But rather than count every calorie, I get to choose servings within the food pyramid. I aim for 1400 calories so the servings I'm allowed are:
3 fats, 4 Protein/Dairy, 5 Carbohyrdates, 4+ Fruits and 4+ Vegetables

Serving sizes are important, most fruit are really 2 servings due to size, but a cup of berries is just one serving which can be quite filling. You can have as much fruit as you want.

Cooked vegetables are generally a 1/2 cup, but raw is usually a cup. You can have as much vegetables as you want.

Most carbohydrates are a 1/2 cup serving or slice of bread or a 1/2 bagel.

Protein as in meat is a 3 oz serving. Beans are a 1/2 cup. Diary is 1 oz cheese, cup of lowfat/nonfat yogurt or 1 oz lowfat cheese.

Fats are 1 tsp peanut butter or butter or oil. 8 almonds or walnuts are also fat servings.

It's pretty easy to keep track of as I eat during the day and I try to mix each meal so it's balanced. I've been entering my journal online with ivillage's tool and the calories are averaging 1400 per day so as a system it works pretty well.

Like most things in life ... takes a little trial and error to find out what works for you. Hope this gave you some ideas!
