On October 1, 2006 my grandmother passed away and during those first few weeks I gained quite a bit of weight. Now yesterday my great-grandfather passed away. There was no warning or anything and I had just seen him Saturday. So now the comfort food is starting to roll in and I'm afraid that I will gain back some of what I lost. I'm just not sure how to cope with this death without some food. So far I havent eaten anything since yesterday for lack of feeling like eating but I know at somepoint I'm gonna crash and burn. I just no me to well............HELP!!!!!

Back away from the food!! Honey Believe me when I say I understand how you can turn to food for comfort but remember in the end it DOES NOT comfort you. Try going for a walk or something else when that mean, evil food calls your name!! Try your best to stay away from it, and if you don't succeed in the end, then at least you know you tried your best!!

Hugs to you for losing your grandpa and to help you stay strong!

PUT DOWN THE FORK.....

I've been there!!! Several of us have....The things that helped me was focusing on my family and friends. Meeting the needs of them who were also suffering (I HAVE to keep busy!!!) Secondly, LET IT OUT. You'll turn to that food faster if you keep everything all bottled up inside you. It's good to cry, it's o.k. to be angry, it's normal to be confused and broken hearted. Just don't keep those emotions to yourself!!! Talk to someone....anyone.....

Call a friend, talk with a minister or someone that you respect, write your feelings down, post them to us. (Crap...I did a lot of talking to my dog when my grandfather passed away in Feb. of 2004, then again when my MIL passed 3 months later)

I believe that you can make it through this. Just ask yourself everytime you're confronted with food "Does my body REALLY need this right now." If the answer is no then try your best to distract yourself from food.
