This is getting ridiculous.. I'm eating massive amounts of chocolate (like 2 per day.. EVERYDAY).. I haven't stepped on the scale recently because I know I must've gained weight. I just don't want this whole cycle to start again.. I am just giving myself permission to eat whatever.. and afterall chocolate does have milk and I need my calcium (yeah I actually tell myself that when I'm eating). Today I even sneaked 2 pcs from my parents house.. what was that? Help!! A swift kick in the right direction please!!

Mary, I wish I knew something motivational to say to you, but all I can say is that I totally understand.

Brightest Blessings

Mary, I can so relate to hearing the call of chocolate! The only thing that I've found to be a satisfying alternative when what I really want is candy--not chocolate flavored stuff--is a square of super dark chocolate that's 85% cocoa. (It's hard to find in the states unless you get Belgian or French imported stuff.) I let one square melt in my mouth for as long as I can make it last, and when it's gone it usually takes care of my chocolate "itch" way better than milk chocolate. I had to really give it a try though to get used to the more bitter taste. I haven't completely gotten rid of chocolate cravings but when I get one this has to save hundreds of calories! Annie

Go figure my kid is a health food nut now!!

No words of wisdom here just understanding.

Since I haven't given up chocolate and eat something with chocolate in it daily I can only say try sugarfree jello pudding cups they are delicious. I think my favorite is the double chocolate version!!!!!!!!! Good Luck!!!!

My suggestion is the sugar/fat free jello in chocolate, or the suggestion of the high quality, high cocoa-content chocolate - I've found that both of those help me.

But I also wanted to mention that chocolate has caffeine in it...and that's not great for - particularly early - pregnancies...they tell you to stay away from alcohol, smoking and caffeine (at least here they do), so maybe if you keep that in mind it will help!

Having said all that, I also wanted to let you know that I understand completely where you're coming from - even to the point of 'sneaking' it from your parents' house.

Mary, another good way to get in some chocolate...Sf Hot chocolate. it's hot so you have to sip it so it can last a little while.

Best of luck and congrats!!

Maybe there is some nutrient in the chocolate that your body feels it's not getting enough of??

But I can relate, every now and then I will get chocolate cravings that will not go away. Very frustrating!

Thank you all for your great help!

I don't have access to sugar free jello & pudding and the other stuff (DARN!).. I know where to find them, but I am not paying the big $$$ for the imported stuff (and they're really racking their prices up because they know it's not available much and if you really want them, then pay). I like to think they don't exist LOL

I love the trick with the caffeine LOL.. Yep chocolate does have caffeine and I"m not supposed to have caffeine while pregnant. That could work really well. Heck I quit smoking cold turkey for the pregnancy and quit the morning coffee.. so yeah I need to quit chocolate.. great thinking! Thanks!

So far I've been "clean" today LOL.. But the harder part of the day is still coming up. Besides, tomorrow is the big day at MIL's house.. so I'm crossing my fingers. Yet I feel more in control (I hope LOL)

Mary,
Another thing you might try is to get a notebook and each time you have chocolate, write it down, and how many calores it is...and maybe why you wanted it, what you had, if it made you feel better - kind of a list...I know you like lists.

It might be that the 'damage' you're doing isn't as bad as you think- and you can take the 'I feel guilty' out of the equation, making the chocolate more like a reward...or maybe you'll get some clue to the crave trigger and find another way to satisfy yourself.
Or maybe just knowing you have to put so much on the list will make it not worth the effort.

Could it be that the craving is connected to stopping smoking?

Just some ideas...good luck...
