"Fat-blocking pill will be sold over the counter--FDA allows nonprescription sale of lower-dose version of Xenical"

Here's a link to this article. I am ever skeptical of these kind of things but found it interesting. Anyone ever try the prescription version? Annie

Yup I sure did...for a year or more...and it worked for a year or so...it was wonderful having oily poops, and not being able to fart without knwoing what is coming out...but it did work...however...

After a year or so, I finally had to stop. It impaired my love life, and was becoming increasingly more of a hinderance...and when I stopped the weight flew back on in record time.

My doctor said that is normal, he has never seen anyone go on xenical and not gain the weight back...and while he said you can take it long term your life suffers because you never know...

Trust me, losing weight was great, but walking around with my butt cheeks clamped together wasn't so fun.

Wow, poor you! What an odd challenge that must have been! I remember when they started frying stuff in Olestra and off-handedly mentioned the strong possibility of oily stool as if was just a minor thing. Yikes! They probably pursued OTC status because they already have a bad rep as a prescription. Without a doctor to advise them, how many people do you think will even know about the fun poops until they start? Alas, no such thing as a magic pill. Thanks for chiming in! Annie

If you research it on the internet it tells you about it.. Personally I don't take nothing I can't find medical backing on.

Well, like I said, it did work, until I went off it...

So it really is a toss up of oily stools for the rest of your life, or finding another way to lose weight...

My sister loves Xenical because she loses weight on it...but after she went off it she went from a 10-12 to a 16-18 (the biggest she has ever been).

So for me it is easier to lose weight slowly or not at all, than to lose it and buy new clothes and be thrilled and then have the discouragement of gaining it all back.

Absolutely! For me I've never wanted to come to depend on something like a drug or surgery to lose weight. I've known too many people who have lost big and gained back even bigger. (I know three people who even regained after gastric by-pass. Not pretty, literally. They look years older now.) So I'll stay in the "diet and exercise" group with you! Annie

Xenical is being advertised like crazy here and they don't mention the oily stools thing at all! I think it would be written on it as a "side effect", but they never mention anything. I had a
