((((Mary)))), Glad to hear that you got to get a break from work. I know you've been really swamped for a while. Have you ever considered honoring your daughter's memory by creating your own happy birthday commemoration for her? It could be spending the day in a museum or zoo, or volunteering at a shelter, or just buying beautiful flowers. It could be something symbolic too, like letting a balloon go. (Once in a while my kids and I let a balloon go with a note for God to take to my dad in heaven. Honestly, I it's much more meaningful for me than for them.)

I hope you don't mind my piping in, Mary. I just think you're a bright, warm, and witty person and I wish you could see what others can about you--and that's just via the internet. I once read a quote that said something like, we can't keep doing the same things and expect to see different results. I know you can change things! Thinking of you, Annie

I know, I have to be careful not to drool all over it ;-)

Have you ever tried www.knitpicks.com? They have nice-quality Peruvian wools and other goodies, and lots of their yarns are $1.99-$3.99 per skein. They don't soak you for shipping, either (free over $45, but not bad even if your order's less). We yarn-fiends have to stick together!

Mary,
It has been a long time since I had a 'special someone' to spoil me on valentine's day..but I figure if I had someone in my life to buy me presents, I'd have to/want to buy something for them - so if I think I'm going to feel 'left out' I try to make sure I do something for myself. Cost is the same... and after all, if I don't love me, who will?

In the city, we can usually buy flowers on the street for 5-10 dollars (although not the past few weeks, it is way too cold) But I spend the money to have flowers in my office almost all the time. Now, since you are saving up for Ireland, you might not want to do that, but maybe you need to think about what you can do for yourself to make yourself feel loved by you and do that.

And I know this too...it's a heck of a lot better to know no flowers are coming than to be wondering if 'he's' going to send them - and he doeasn't. I am a control freak, and I am really sure that I am in control of my own happiness...

Wishing you whatever you most desire...

{{{hugs}}} You've been passing through some rough time lately, I hope the "chilling out" helped a bit to calm you down.

I think Valentine's day is very overrated. Even when you have someone to share it with, the whole event becomes too "unreal" because of the emphasis given to it. And I think
