Well, that seemed obvious

As I've moved along in this long journey, there are a few things I've learned that looking back seem kind of obvious, but at the time were total revelations to me.

I wonder if others have these 'oh' moments to share?

One of mine is 'If I want to eat more fruit, I actually have to buy more fruit.'
Every week, I'd think 'I like fruit, I should have it for my snacks' but I seldom had fruit to eat...so I seldom ate it. Now I plan what fruit I am going to buy, where I'll get it, as well as when I'll eat it...

Anyone else have brain waves like this?

My recent ahhh moment was a sale on the bowls of soup. I prefer to bring my own lunch rather than have to hit the deli or cafe that is in the office park where I work. But I don't always have time and I sometimes wind up not getting to lunch until after 2 PM because of a tight schedule. The Campbell's soup bowls are perfect for dire emergencies when I haven't had time to make a lunch and my schedule is just crazy. I keep 4 or 5 of them in my desk drawer. Most of them are under 300 calories. I know lots of sodium, but they are quick and filling. It's really been a huge help for me to have something relatively healthy, filling and very quick! That and I bring 2 or 3 fruits with me each day and a bag of the baby carrots. No excuse to hit the snack machine.

The other thing was to stop putting so many rules on how and when I got exercise and how intense it needed to be. Before, I had to be able to do 5 days a week at the Y or run and make certain progress or it wasn't worth it. It was just crazy. Now my objective is to find the minimum amount of exercise I need to do in order to meet my goals. Doesn't mean I don't do more when I can, but it's given me the freedom to carve out the necessity piece ... because it really isn't that much ... 1/2 hr walk with the dog each day and 2 days of weight training at the Y.
