I usually drink about 50-60 oz of water per day. I probably pee only a couple of times so I assume I'm retaining water. How do I keep this from happening? Is there an over the counter water pill I can take? Do I need to increase my water intake? Any and all suggestions are welcome!!!

Hi Lisa,
I'd suggest drinking more water than you currently are. You're probably not getting sufficient water for your body and so your body is hanging on to whatever you're sending in. Water is a natural diuretic. Try adding a few more glasses and see if that helps.

Thanks!! I was afraid someone would say that, but I will definitely try that starting today. I hate water. I put crystal light in every other bottle that I drink just so I can get it down. I guess it really wouldn't hurt if I put it in every bottle, that way I might can get more in.
Thanks!!
Lisa
I'm like you and can't stand water either. I'm trying to drink more.

ugh....I'm doing good today...I'm up to 60 oz already and I plan to drink another 20 oz when I get home. baby steps! :-)
Thanks for all of your suggestions!
Hi Lisa-
Yes, you should probably increase your intake a bit. Also, check your diet for hidden sodium which might make you hold on to all that water longer than you'd like. (Check packaging or a nutrition-logging website if you're not sure...) It does get easier, really!

Hi Lisa,
I agree with the other ladies, more water! Seems silly that you need more water to get rid of water retention but thats what my Dr told me LOL!
How about carbonated water? Here in Ontario we have a generic store brand called "Presidents Choice" which has a low sodium Club Soda/soda water. I often drink it with a splash of lemon or lime juice. Herbal teas are good too.
Good luck Sweety!

50 to 60 oz of water is less than recommended. You need at least 64 oz to get that 8 cups of water a day. Also, since your body needs water, it isn't all going to go right through you, your organs are going to use it also, so drinking 64 oz of water doesn't necessarily mean you are going to pee 64 oz.
Here is the most important part to remember about retaining water: The more water you drink, the less you retain. The less water you drink, the more you retain. If you don't get enough water, your body will retain it until it can get replacement water, if that makes sense.
a good way to tell if you are drinking enough water is the color of your urine. If it is clear and not yellowish then you are getting enough water. I currently drink about 64oz a day and i have to go to the bathroom quite a bit. Also since you dont like the taste of water you can add lemon or lime juice to flavor it up as a break from crystal light. i have also found that carrying my nalgaline bottle around helps. Plus a good way to drink water faster is put a straw in your bottle and drink from that. you drink a lot more without knowing it when you drink from a straw. good luck!
