Hi all
I've been here before and I'm baaaack!!
My name is Grace and I'm in Massachusetts. I have 2 DD (16 1/2 and 20) and am currently in the midst of a divorce after a 21 year marriage. I've been overweight my ENTIRE life but at 45 yrs old, I'm starting to really feel it. My knees are shot and I'm finding my weight to really be an issue as I get older.
I have 100+ lbs to lose but I've decided not to "diet". I'm trying to cut out eating after supper, make better food choices and exercise a little more - which should be easy since I exercise not at all now!
I'm going to myrtle beach in July and would like to lose at least 30# by then. My greatest fear is to get to the airport and not fit in the airplane seats!
For exercise I'm doing DDR. That's the dance game for Xbox, where you have to step to the music by following the arrows on the TV screen. The right song can really have you moving! And I really am enjoying it since my teenage DDs usually do it with me.
I hope you don't mind if I post every day. I really want to become an active member of the board and hopefuly make some new friends.
I look forward to getting to know you all.
Hugs,
Grace

Hi there and welcome to the group. My name is Rochelle and I need to lose 125lbs and I'm only 27! I have few medical problems and I'm not on any strict diet either. I don't want to do any certain excersise but I have been doing thing like walking since I got no car, dancing with my dog, going to the pools etc.
Good luck

Grace,
Welcome! I too am in Massachusetts. I started this journey four years ago at 47. For me, I knew that it would take a really long time, and I set a three year gola to lose 90 pounds - and I am almost at four years...with about a 55 pound loss. That might seem like I haven't met my goal, but I have totally changed my life- and I have a way of life that is healthy and I can sustain. And even though I am still heavier than I want, some of it is muscle and my body is close to what I want even if 'the magic number' isn't.
I tell you my story so that you will know that it is possible to do this at your age - what I did may not work best for you, and we all have to find our own way at this, but this is what I did.
I try to make one change at a time. I started with exercise - going to the gym three times a week, once for an hour, twice for a half hour, and diligently walking at least four days a week (I live right in Boston, and walking can be my main form of transportation if I let it). Gradually, I cut out foods that added nothing but entertainment value(chips with my lunch, vending machine snack at 4:00), and replaced foods (salad with chicken for dinner instead of pasta or a bag of chips). The weight did not fly off - I didn't weigh at the beginning or for the first three months, but once I faced the scale, I lost a pound a week for a long time. Now, I am fighting for each pound, but the thing is, I have a way of life that is so much healthier, and I feel so much better about myself. I am a five day a week, hour and fifteen minute gym person - and I am aware of what I am eating even if I'm not always on plan...
So, come join us - post every day, 100 times a day if you need to. Everyone has great ideas - some members are great at comforting you, some at cheering you on - I'm good at 'get yourself back up and get moving' so if I think you need that, I'll try to chime in.
I have never been married, but like all of us, I've had my share of broken hearts and broken dreams and I know that working to make yourself who you want to be is always a better choice than eating cookie dough from the bowl - even when it doesn't seem like it at the time - so congratulations on joining us and best wishes on your journey!

Hello.
My name is Joanne. I read your message and wanted to say hi. I also have over 100 lbs to loose. I have three children, two in their 30's and one 12 year old son. I am 54 years old. My knees and ankles are starting to bother me, but otherwise I am vary active. I would like someone to correspond with during this time. I know in order to see my son grow up, I must loose this weight. Sorry about your marriage. I have been through it also. Going to Myrtle Beach is a good start. It sounds like you might have a good support group.
Joanne
Thank you all for such a lovely welcome! I can already see that this is the place to come for the support I'm going to need. I have decided that starting tomorrow I am going to be a little more disciplined in my exercising. Right now I do it when I "have time". But starting tomorrow, I'm going to "make time" at least 4 days/week, 1/2 hour each day. That's huge for me - a self proclaimed couch potato chip! So between that and not eating after supper, I'm definitely on the right track. Once i'm comfortable with that, I'll start a new change. Slow but steady, that's fine with me!
Thanks again!
Grace
Welcome to the board Grace, we're glad you're joining us!
I haven't officially been on a "diet" and I myself prefer to think of this as a changing lifestyle. Way to go on your resolution to exercise 4x
