Hi Everyone,

My name is Vicki and I stumbled upon this board (thankfully) after an anxiety attack - about my weight. lol. I just had my 2nd child, a little girl, who was born on February 15th, 2007. I didnt gain very much weight with her (20 lbs) but I started out pretty overweight to begin with. With my 1st son I gained over 80 lbs and had two cancer surgerys (cervical) before I got pregnant. I never lost the weight and then started out with this pregnancy, leading to over 100lb weight gain. My husband is amazing but I struggle so hard with my weight. I'm a full time student (Bachelors of Legal Studies), normally a full time employee (and will be returning to work in about 4 weeks), and in addition to my new daugther, I also have a 3 year old little boy.

I dont have any kind of weightloss plan enacted except I am currently pumping when I find time (breastmilk) and I dont have any type of weightloss regimin as of yet.. I was wondering what you all are doing and maybe if you could give me tips or advice? Its so hard for me to stick to a "diet"... TIA and looking forward to meeting you.

Vicki,
It's great to have you with us. Congratulations on your little one and on getting pregnant after cervical cancer. What a dynamo you are! Good luck getting things on track!

welcome vicki! I know these gals will give you some great tips, but I will start with a few that have helped me this time around. I don't really follow a particular "diet". I find them restrictive and after a while I just rebel. I decided to start with baby steps. (not so far to fall when I slip up) increasing my water intake, watching my portions, taking a different approach to how I prepare our foods at home, and simply making better choices. Like, An apple for a snack instead of a little Debbie or some chips. then as long as I handle the little steps ok, I add more as I go. When I first started in Jan, the water and portion control were my first steps. the rest have sort of fallen into place along the way. I try to make nothing off limits. If it is a special occasion, like a birthday, I will have cake. Not the xlg piece that I would have had before but enough that I don't feel jiped and deprived. I figure if my body get a taste of it's old favorites from time to time it won't panic and go into "feed me" mode. Currently I am working on increased activity (exercise) and better meal planning. these have been hard ones for me but I will keep at em' till it feels more natural. It is still hard work, but I have felt a lot of support from these boards and just having a place to vent can help sometimes. You can do it!!

HI... and welcome!!
I see that you mentioned that you are pumping.. are you exclusively pumping or are you BF too.. (why am i being so nosey??).. I exclusively pumped for both of my kids.. after DD was born ie EP'd for 8months and after DS was born I chose to EP and did it for 6 months. While EP'g I found that the weight melted off of me but I quickly gained it back after i stopped (mainly cause i didn't change my eating & exercising habits- which was my own fault).

as for weight loss now, i'm not following a diet per say, but i am watching my portion sizes and drinking lots of water, and i am "moving" around more. not scheduled exercise but i play harder and more often with my kids and go outside with them as much as possible. (building a snow fort is an awesome work out and fun too)

Welcome aboard Vicki and congratulations on your new baby!!

I was never officially on a diet before. I ate more vegetables & fruits and eleminating unnecessary sweets(major chocoholic here). I like this system because you can work out anything you want. Like if there is birthday cake or something. One drawback is that you can fall into the trap of making too many allowances (so it's the weekend, I can eat a bit more of this or that and so on). I find that journaling really helps me be accountable to myself.

I b/f my son and gained weight while doing it, so be careful LOL

Welcome aboard!!
