There is my biggest problem...cravings. That and I'm an emotional eater too. Anyway, besides the point. What are some of the best tips you've tried that help curb cravings? And what just plain ol' dont work?

I try keep my purse full of Orbit gum. I like to chew it between meals, I chew some sort of mint flavor, that way food and any drink besides water taste nasty :p

My top three:

--Brush my teeth.

--Drink a big glass of water. (At least 12 ounces.)

--Get away from where the food is!

Hmm...

- drink a glass of non-fat milk per day

- drink water

- eat apples

Does the trick for me.

if you are craving something sweet, have something sour such as pickles, grapefruit (w/o sweetener) suck on a lemon.

if you need something to ward off a meal, have something hot to sip, such as broth, non cream soup, tea or coffe

if you want salty again go for a pickle or a piece of cheese.

This is not my idea, but I thought it was pretty smart. A while ago, someone posted about 'the banana rule' That if they were hungry, they'd be satisfied with a banana, and they'd have that. But if the banana wasn't at all apealling, then the desire to eat was coming from other than hunger, and doing something else - taking a walk, cleaning a closet, writing a letter-anything, would take your mind off the craving and give you something else to think about. I don't follow this too well, but it crosses my mind sometimes when I am in 'eat the contents of the refrigerator' mode.

Are you craving certain things because you're hungry? If you're geniunly hungry, then you should go ahead and have a healthy snack.. and no unfortunatly M&M's doesn't qualify (darn!).

Are you craving certian food because you feel deprived? Are there healthier alternatives to the stuff you're craving? (Like fat-free chocolate pudding instead of real chocolate? etc)

Are you craving things because you feel deprived? Then maybe if you allow certain treats once a week, then you can tell yourselfl that whatever you're craving you can have it on Sunday (for example). Usually when Sunday is around you just chose a treat or two (at least that what happens with me)
