Fed Up and ready to fix it

So here I am. I'm 27, and yesterday I weighed myself and realized I reached a new lifetime high. I was never skinny before, I was over 200lbs through highschool, and have been stable at 180 for the past 2-3 years. But then last summer happened. I was working out and eating right and losing the weight, then my life changed and I stopped. And when i stopped I gained 50 lbs in 2 months. Now I'm up another 10 from there and I just can't deal anymore.

So I'm here.

I guess this is my way of saying hi. I'm here because I need to be somewhere right now. I need support and I don't want to make this journey on my own.

I have to make a change. And I'm ready to make a change.

So, where do I start? heh :)

Peace ~Bonnie~

I know what you're feeling. I've always been on the heavy side and the past few years for me have been hard. I got married and 2005 and everytime I look at my wedding pics i feel like a HUGE dissappointment to myself and to my hubby. I'm up to 295 now and actually I am down from 309 since January. I hate how I feel and I need to change too. This seems like the right place to start!

Good luck!

Welcome aboard!!

I think by comming here you've already started. You made the firs step in realising that you need to regain control. We will support you in everyway we can. We have weekly weigh-ins, an exercise challenge, and you can set up your own journal if you like. Otherwise, just feel free to brag any success or ask us for any advice or support.

You've already lost a lot of weight before and were able to maintain it for a long time.. how did you do it last time? Did you follow a specific program? Are you going to do the same thing again this time?

We're glad you're joining us

I've been trying to think a lot about my lifestyle, and how it's changed. For a while I couldn't for the life of me figure out how I stayed at a stable weight for so long, and then I remembered it. I worked at UPS loading trucks for 5 hours a day (I'd probably just blocked it out of my memory). I'd always worried that I had a job like that and stayed stable at what is still sort of a high weight (180lbs). When I was working there and started watching what I ate (really just following the food piramid, not even counting calories) I dropped 25 lbs like nothing. At the time that brought me to my adult low of 170lbs (which does sound fantastic right now).

When I quit there I gained a little, popped up to 200 or so, but that stabilized, and I was being fairly active, biking to work and walking everywhere (one of the great perks of living in the big city). But at 200 I was still unhappy and wanted to lose. I joined Ediets and did that while working out a ton for 4 months or so. I took a conditioning class at the gym, which consisted of running a couple miles a day (which no I can't actually do =P) and I worked out at the gym for 2 hours 4-5 days per week. I lost a significant amount of weight, and saw even bigger changes in my body. (I got down to a size 12! OMG! I've never been a 12.) Which worked fine for a student's schedule.

Then I got my degree, got a full time job, stopped working out at the gym, stopped cooking at home, started ordering in all the time and boom, 60 lbs gained.

Now I feel unhealthy, and can't do half the things I used to do, which makes it hard for me to want to do anything since I feel aweful when I try and do 10 minutes on the eliptical and I feel like I'm going to die.

Sigh.

Well that's my story in a nutshell. I used to move 30,000 lbs of boxes (by hand) in a 4-5 hr shift, which turned into spending 1hr on the recumbant bike at the gym and 30min on the eliptical to even get my heartrate up to target. And now I can't take the two flights of stairs to my front door without feeling winded.

My plan, I will post next, since this got really long. Sorry about that =P

It's all part of my trying to process though where I've been and where I need to start now. Maybe I should start a journal or something. heh. then I wouldn't have to spam everybody in these boards.

Back to work for a bit, then coming up with a plan. Just needed to take a break from the carnage (I work in a research lab, and today is animal sacrificing day for me, so sad).

Peace

So here's my lists of things that need fixing.

Things I want to stop doing:
1) Smoking
2) Eating sugar
3) Procrastinating (hah)
4) Overeating
5) Eating for emotional reasons
6) Drinking soda

Things I want to START doing:
1) Drinking water
2) Eating veggies (my 5 servings a day minimum, I am a vegetarian after all =P)
3) Biking or walking to work
4) Working out (didn't spend all that money on an eliptical machine and those weights for nothing)
5) Practicing my martial arts
6) Keeping my house in order
7) Getting to work at a reasonable hour, which means getting up at a reasonable hour
8) Making peace with food

I know it's too much to try and tackle all at once. But this week is working on reducing the smoking (had only one so far today, and I am using the patches to help) and drinking my 100oz of water every day.

Next week I'll start with the official weigh ins and biking to work, adding in bringing salads for lunch so I don't have to go out and buy some greasy lunch.

I guess that sounds like a start.

Thanks for the welcomes everybody. I'm glad I found you all! :)

Feeling more upbeat today and like this might be possible thanks to you!

Peace

Good for you! I'm in the same boat with you as far as the smoking goes. I was smoking and I realized, if I am losing weight to be healthly, what excuse do I have for still smoking? So I quit. Cold turkey. I haven't have a cigarette in 3 weeks.

I try to keep busy to keep the cravings at bay. It's not too bad! Just stick with it! We want you to succeed!!!

This sounds like a great list and you're not trying to do too much at once. 21 days to make a habit they say. Good luck and keep coming back, such great ideas and stories on this board!

Bonnie, it sounds like you put a lot of thought into your plan. Your action steps are very detailed and you're taking it one step at a time. I wish you success. Can't wait until I hear you've takled more and more on that list once the first goals are set as habits.

You can do this!
