What has worked for you?

Well, it's just over a year until my wedding, and I have an impossible 80 lbs to lose. Heck, I'd be happy to drop 40. We all know that the old diet and exercise is the only certain way to lose weight, but its much more complicated than that, isnt it?

What has worked for you ladies? Is there any particular motivation, food, diet or exercise that you find is near-miraculous?

Welcome to the board. The good news for you ...Lots of great people on here. The bad news ... No magic. Diet and exercise. Though I will say, that you do need to find what works for you. I use a food diary and a balance meal plan that emphasize fruits, vegetables, healthy whole grains and lean protein. I also have a pedometer to track my steps, it helps me work in more activity to my overall day rather than just concentrating on structured exercise times.

A few things, that have helped me recently ... when I'm hungry for a pre-dinner snack .. 8 whole almonds seems to satisfy me and they are a great good fat. I walk every day, 30 mins ... every day ... no cheating. I get 10,000 steps every day (ok, except the last week or so). That morning walk accounts for about a third of that ... very hard to make that goal without it. I am phanaticly about bringing several pieces of fresh fruit or baby carrots to work everyday ... I will eat them rather than hit the vending machine ... if I have them. I've also stocked up my office drawer with campbell's soup bowls and small tuna cans so when my meetings end up running over my lunch time ... I'm not going to starve or go for drive thru. Sure I'd prefer to hit the organic market and get something healthier ... but that's not how my day goes sometimes. Better to be prepared than desperate. And the final thing ... the one big thing for me anyway ... get enough sleep! If I'm tired, I grab for things to pick me up ... chocolate, pop tarts ... all those things that in the end don't really work and find me grabbing for more of the same cruddy food.

The best advice I have ... try different approaches until you find what works for you, but it is still about expending more calories than you eat. I would add that it's also important to eat enough of the right foods to keep your brain and body feeling good too.

Drink water....that helps a lot.

other than that just move your body. whatever extra movement you can get in is a big help.

Welcome aboard!! And congratualtions on your upcomming wedding!!

First off, the good news. I'd say it's very possible to lose 40lbs in a year. I have 80lbs to lose myself, I lost almost 30lbs and I can see a great difference in the way I look. So I'd say with losing 40lbs, you'll really see a difference.

Second, more good news. It's doable... there are a lot of people here on the board that are living proof of that. We get stuck sometimes and feel frustrated.. we have relapces when we gain a little weight. That's all part of the journey.

Hi

I started finally to get my weight under control at the begining of March took a few days tp get organized. A freind phoned me and gave me a nutritional plan and a full body De-tox program. Looked so simple and has shown good results. It's simplified my life, it's given me better nutrition than I've had in years and I feel better than I have in a decade. So it's not even a diet it just gives your body what it wants. I crave for nothing but a good meal, no sugars or cabonated soda's or the bad fats. I look forward to nutritious meals. So I lost 40 lbs so far and I need to loss another 140 lbs. It's been a nice start, I feel energized and determined to regain my physical health. I lost 7 inches on my waist and 28.5 overall. I'm also in a compitition to win 10000 and a trip to Vegas !
I'm looking forward to the trip ! I'm going to WIN, everywhich way ! looking forward to this month's challeges

Bring it on!

That program actually sounds like the one my friends are doing, Body for Life. They've asked me about it, and I took a look at it. It was really involved, and I don't think I could ever do it! Congratulations for having the discipline and motivation to actually go through with it though, what a trooper!

Hi

It's not Body for Life. This is so simple and easy it saves so much time! Plus I feel so much better than month ago. I'm pretty excited and I will continue to my goal, it's set up so you can't fail! (Bonus)

Mark,

Would you be interested in starting a thread so we can learn about your plan?
