New here!

Hello,
I am new here and really need support to loose weight. I have always been slightly over weight. However, I had a baby the end of August and really put on the pounds. I am currently a size 22 and would love to get down to a 12. I am tall, so anything less than a 12 would not look good.
My biggest challenge is eating at night. It's the end of the day, I am winding down, and I just want to relax. With that, I usually have some sort of snack.
I recently joined a gym and have felt better about myself. I am afraid that my commitment to the gym may become boring and I stop going.
I look foward to chatting with everyone!

Hi and welcome!
Congratulaitons on your baby! Isn't it fun to keep experiencing so many "firsts"? I'm sure you'll get lots of pointers about late-night munchies and ways to stay on track with exercising! Looking forward to having you with us!

I have found the gym to be a huge help - in fact it is the center of my plan.
I started out going three days a week - I decided that all I to do was go - that if after I got there I really didn't want to do anything, I could leave - but that has never happened.
I do a lot of different things, and I don't begin to take advantage of all that they offer. I like the stationary bike - you can watch TV or listen to music or just eavesdrop on everyone else (my choice, I'm nosy). There is a pool and I swim once a week. I work with a trainer, which I know is a luxury, but if that isn't an option for you then you can put together a couple of different weight routines, either with dumbbells or machines or a mix. Fitness magazine has good routines, and I'm sure you can find some online too. And most gyms have classes - I have just started Pilates and found that I really love it. I do steps, which are in the 'challenging but you're gald when you're done' category. A lot of people like the eliptical machines and treadmill, but I live in the city and walk everywhere, and I don't want to run, so I pass on those. But they are good for variety.
When I started going to the gym, my broether, who is super fit, told me that it took six months to feel at home in a gym, and I figured if that was true for him, it would take me that long or longer to be comfotable - and it did. But now, the gym is one of the best places I go. Other people are very supportive, and I have worked my way up to five visits a week - and I am not bored.
Best wishes on your journey.

Welcome and congratulations on the baby. the first year is so much fun esp watching how they are experiencing life.
great to hear you are exercising. make sure you are drinking enough water during the day. journaling helps keep you on track. are you following any particular program?
what helps me get through the night is i have a yogurt every night. most nights its my dessert and gives me something to look forward to having. it also helps me sleep better. as long as you plan, you can have any low cal low fat snack at night. some ideas are popcorn, a few crackers with a slice of turkey (turkey will also aid in sleep) try to avoid anything with caffeine.
