New here, need serious motivation!

Hi ladies! On my quest to dump this fat-suit body of mine, I happened upon this board with hopes that I will fit in here with you all! I'm a married mommy of 2 (6 y/o DS and 7 m/o DD). I'm an RN and work with heart patients, and find it very hypocritical when I tell my patients they need to lose weight and eat right, when I'm fat myself! I have several problems with trying to lose weight, the biggest of all being that I don't really know how to lose weight. I have very little will power and my metabolism is awful. I work night shift, so I think that may have a lot to do with it. Some days I'm up all day and night, others I spend sleeping til it's time to get up and go back to work. When I'm off I try to keep "normal" hours and eat at normal times, but I often find that I'm not hungry until late afternoon. When I work, we eat our "dinner" between 1-2am, which of course I don't do when I'm off. I've tried just not eating, but I honestly need something to help keep me awake while I'm there. I just needs lots of help in general with this weight issue! I've been fat my whole life, since I was a kid, and it just keeps getting worse and worse. I suffer from high blood pressure and I really just want to get healthy for myself and my family. I want to be around for my kids and my husband. I know I'll never be super skinny, I don't really care about that. I just want my health back! What has worked for you guys? Do you have any suggestions on subtle diet changes that may work for me? Or any tips to kick start my metabolism? I'm also a member of the August '06 PG board and a lot of the mom's on our board do Winsor Pilates. I just wondered if any of you ladies have done Pilates and had success? I know some exercise routines are a lot harder the bigger you are, and I need to start something that is going to take it easy on me at first!

Welcome aboard Sara, we're glad you're joining us.
You have one messed up schedule alright. I don't know how anyone can take an overnight shift.. I love my zzzz's and can never do that!
I have some good news.. many people would argue that it doesn't matter when you eat your calories.. as long as your ovrall consumption of calories in the 24-hour period is low enough to cause weight loss. So you don't really have to worry about that 1 a.m. dinner as long as your total calories in the day are
Welcome aboard and best of luck to you.
I guess I am the opposite of most people as I seem to have done better on night shift, of course when I worked it I only had 1 child versus the 3 I have now.....LOL That might make a difference.

Hi Sarah !! Glad to see your name here....DH and I are going to start our new lifestyle tomorrow, and I was just going through Ivillage to see what support web groups are out there : )
I am hoping also that with everyone's helpful tips I can get back to the old me...or at least as close as possible !! I have put on over 100 lbs in 14 years.......and it just isn't fair to my new little 8 month old to feel like this...he needs to have someone to be able to play with him !! Not a 34 y/o who aches all the time : (
