need some help

I am wondering if anyone else has the problem that I have and what they do about it. I have serious lower back pain. My husband says it is the ligaments that support my body weight, they run cross wise just above my hips. Anyway, it hurts really bad ecspecially if that area is touched, kind of like they are inflammed. Yesterday I over did it, I admit it, I did an hour on the recumbent bike than I walked/jogged with my kids while they rode their bikes for 30 minutes and then I rode my bike for another 30 minutes. Well, the pain increased so much it hurts to move and I hardley was able to sleep last night. This has happened before. I won't go to the dr. about it because I always get the same answers from them, regardless of weather I am 50lbs lighter than the last time I was in there they will still say its because of my weight. I have thought about the chiropractor but worried about getting the same response from them. So I am wondering if anyone else has this type of pain and knows somthing that helps.

I suffer from lower back pain, but have never been told it was my weight or ligaments. I have been told it was weak back muscles and sometimes when it hits a certain way that I have a pinched nerve. (when dr says this it is when the pain shoots down my leg(s) as well). What do I do for it, dr gave me pain meds and muscle relaxers. I can't even unload the washer without it hitting some days. Yea a simple task that causes pain.
This is the reason I haven't done much in the way of exercise over the last few years.........Dr says that carrying my last two kiddos weakened the muscles more than they were apparently. I injured my back a few times in the space of 5 yrs as well though, starting with a car accident and then at least 2 x's in work related injuiries. Not a good thing at all.
I do hope you get the pain to ease up soon. I have though of the chiro too, but mainly cuz I think it may help with my headaches (have had 3 this week so seriously thinking on the issue).
I wish you luck in this venture to end the pain.

Listen to your body. Get several opinions. I speak from experience on this one.
While I was pregnant with #2, I experienced what I thought was sciatic nerve problems which are not uncommon with pregnancy. After I had Kyle, the pain did not go away.
This all came to a head while giving my boys a bath for Easter. My older boy, who was around 2 years old at the time, wanted to get out. I tried to get him a towel off the bar, and I could not stand up. I was really scared. I ended up having to crawl to the bedroom to get my husband to help me.
After all the physical therapy you can imagine (traction, massage, electro-shock), I finally had an xray. Turns out I had a piece of spinal cartilege chip off my spine and had been rubbing on my spinal cord for almost a year. Needless to say, I have perminant scarring on that part of my spine, and my right foot has about half of the feeling of my left foot.
That being said, I still play soccer year-round and exercise all of the time. I do back/ab and torso strengthening exercises everyday. I find if I don't I am in a great deal of pain. I also stretch my back while I am in a hot shower. That helps too.
I guess what I am trying to say is use the medical profession to your advantage. Ask questions and demand answers, other than your overweight. You pay these people, make them work. Don't wait like I did. My problem will never go away, even when I lose the weight, and I am only 33 years old!
The only thing I can say is; take some time off, if you can, an epsome salt bath and personal massage. You may want to talk to a chiropractor to. Your hips may need to be adjusted back into alinment. I love my icy hot too.
Good luck with your pain. I hope you find your answers.

So when you walk in there this time tell them, Look I know I need to lose weight and i am workign on that BUT IN THE MEANTIME I need help here. My back is KILLING me!!
Like Akira said be proactive, take charge, you are paying them so make them help you. Believe me if I tell my dr I want something, I get it. If I tell him I don't want something he tries to abide by my wishes til he thinks it is impeding my health...LOL we butt heads about the steroid issue regularly so this is when it impedes my health and he says hey you got to take them if you want to get better. LMAO
So yea go in there with confidence and attitude and say look I am working on the weight issue and frankly I am doing a darn good job at it, but in the meantime if I want to continue doing a good job i need help with my back lest I can't exercise like I want to!!
Put that way, I don't see how a dr in his right mind and deserves the title of dr can possibly say, well it is your weight and nothing else can be done. I am sure SOMETHIGN

I'll add two things. One is that although I don't have back issues, the trainer I work with does - and there is not an ounce of fat on his body - he finds relief with a combination of massage/icy hot/hot showers/and exercises that stretch the muscles.
The other is that I don't think it really mattrs WHY you hurt - do NOT let your doctor intimidate you into failing to seek help. Being FAT is not a criminal activity. It is not a moral failure. It is just how we are. And no one deserves to be in pain. Physical therapy might help. Chiropractry(is that a word?) might help. Pain pills/muscle relaxants might help. Massage might help. What will NOT help is letting somebody make you feel that you don't deserve help because you ate a few too many cookies.
I know that medical care is expensive, and that it is hard to find doctors who accept patients, and that our whole insurance system can make this very difficult. But I ask you this - If it were your child that hurt, or your DH, would you accept that it was THEIR fault and that a medical person wouldn't try to help them? I don't think so.
Advocate for yourself. You deserve the best care, and you deserve to try things until you find the right combination for you.
Rant over - sending you gentle (((Hugs)))

"We do not think ourselves into new ways of living. We live ourselves into new ways of thinking."
I think taking care of our families and letting us slide is just part of being a mom/wife!! LMAO
I have done the same thing and only in the past year really started doing stuff for me, yet I still feel guilty even if I spend money on my health. Go figure. I think that is money I needed to spend on the kids. I come back to work and got insurance and guess what I STILL FEEL guilty even if I am doubling our income and paying half as much for my medical. Sometimes I think.........geez I double the kids medical bills by changing insurance even though we have better insurance ...... what was I thinking, then I tell myself you were thinking they would get better care this way. Boy was I wrong........they aren't getting better care, still lousy drs around here and apparently it really didn't matter what kind of insurance they had. I WISH my dr was a ped too.
Anyways......truth be known I got lucky and found a dr for me that cared about the patients more than the money, there are very few of those out there.....now if only his staff were as good as he. His receptionists lack a few qualities needed to go along with him. LOL
